This is a good example on why you should always check the air in your pressure tank to insure it’s got the proper PSI because if you don’t, it can cause your pump & motor to start and stop too often causing it to rub the insulation off your wire. The pressure tank is the heart & soul to your pump down in the well!

The most important thing a homeowner can do, Is just checking the air in the bladder tank/pressure tank. This Is critical for start and stopping the pump system, so it is good to check it once a year. To check the air in the tank you need to drain the system down where there is no more water pressure in the lines. Then you are free to check the air at the top of the tank (looks like an air stem on a car tire) it should have two less pounds then what it kicks on at, so for example, most our systems are on a 40/60 pound difference so you need 38 psi in the tank when it is drained down. If you’re noticing your tank is not holding air it is supposed to it could be a sign of a tank going bad.
