When my neighbors moved, they gifted us this little nightstand by Ho**er Furnishings. It had a lot of rough spots, dings and scratches. It lived with us like that for years as I built my skills for refinishing.

I finally had the time and tools to do it justice and I couldn't be more pleased. The wood grain pops and I can't stop admiring "my little ho**er."

products used: zinsser sanding sealer, mohawk toners & blendal sticks, enduro flat pre-cat lacquer

Hard to believe that such a small piece gave me so much trouble. I was also undone by the weather so not entirely my fault?

This is an L.A. Period Furniture “starline” piece. It was made in the 1950s with that cool MCM vibe. But the blond finish was failing and didn’t really do it for me. So I fixed (several times to my dismay) some veneer damage and gave it a whole new color.

Very different from my typical style, but I followed what the piece seemed to want. A little glam, a little moodiness.

Behind three layers of paint was some solid wood waiting for a second chance. PSA: please tape off your drawers before painting 😂
