2 0 2 6. . . the restoration of the Richmond Plunge is a TJA project that saved this community gem from being shuttered. Working closely with the friend’s group, the City of Richmond and the many artisans who worked to restore this historic building, we are grateful to be a part of its now 100 year legacy.

S L O P I N G L O T W I T H D R A M A T I C V I E W S We love this ADU that we designed for a couple in Oakland. Sited to take advantage of those views and capture natural light with high ceilings and strategically placed windows, this contemporary 800sf 2-bedroom/2-bathroom is being rented out and may one day be used for downsizing by the owners.

This 2nd floor addition presented us with a creative opportunity to employ a timber frame system for our design, precision precut by CNC (computer numerical control) machines. We sourced Timberlyne in Texas for this work. The precision precut process reduced the timber frame construction cost of the project by 50-75% percent, making the client’s custom timber frame vision attainable.

We are members of the AIA and fervently support its actions to preserve our national architectural treasures.

AIA took this step to require the administration to comply with historic preservation laws and secure permission from Congress before implementing plans to alter the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, a nationally significant architectural and cultural landmark.

AIA joined a broad coalition of leading preservation and architecture groups to file this lawsuit, including:

-DC Preservation League
-The National Trust for Historic Preservation
-Docomomo US
-The Committee of 100 on the Federal City
-The Society of Architectural Historians (SAH)
- The Cultural Landscape Foundation
- American Society of Landscape Architects

Preservation has long been a core part of our mission. This action is about protecting the process that ensures architects, preservation experts, and the public have a voice when nationally significant architecture is changed.

W o r k f r o m H o m e A D U This cute detached ADU was designed for a tech couple that works remotely in San Mateo. They wanted an ADU that could serve as their office as well a place for guests. A deck connects the main house to the ADU making the morning commute a breeze.

In this project for two work at home tech professionals, an existing shed was demolished to make room for the design and construction of a 540sf detached one-bedroom ADU which will serve as their offices and as space for guests.
