There's nothing quite as awesome is making something better than it was just by fixing it properly. It certainly makes for yet another very happy customer!
Here we have a basement that was finished by the precious homeowner. They did an ok job, except they built their walls too close to the foundation and covered the French drain. This not only caused water to soak the base plate, but also get soaked up into the insulation like a sponge, also weakening the sheetrock.
So, we removed 3 exterior walls and part of an interior wall, built new ones a few inches in, put plastic up on the backside of the new walls for some added insurance, new insulation, new electric to meet code, drywall, tape, sand, paint, and some new drop ceiling.
Then came the upgrades:
New custom shelving
New window extension jambs (old ones were OSB)
New carpet on the rear entrance stairs
New COREtec Floors flooring
New LED lighting
If that wasn't enough, we then found a surprise! The previous owner cut almost half of the floor joist out on either side of one of the lights, because they hung their drop ceiling grid too close for the light to fit. The homeowner had always wondered why the floor bounced when the dog ran across the living room, no wonder! In fact, one of the joists had already cracked! We jacked up the floor and installed some new joists to carry the load, installed the ceiling grid at the proper height, and averted a possible disaster.
