Watching a project transition from active work to a finished residential landscape makes for a satisfying few seconds of video. What matters to us, though, is everything that brings that final view together.

Fall planting has a very practical advantage: it gives many trees and shrubs time to settle in before summer turns up the heat.

As temperatures cool, deciduous plants move toward dormancy. That can shift the focus toward root establishment while evaporation is generally lower than during hot summer conditions.

In the Lehigh Valley, that makes fall a particularly useful planting window for many deciduous trees.

We still pay attention to soil conditions, moisture, plant type, and the time remaining before the ground freezes.
