“Worker Killed in Tragic Heavy Equipment Accident at Scott County Quarry”

The Scott County Sheriff’s Office released a press release Friday detailing a tragic workplace accident that claimed the life of a worker earlier that morning at Riverstone Quarry near New Liberty, Iowa.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, emergency dispatchers received a 911 call at approximately 6:56 a.m. reporting that a worker had become pinned beneath a large piece of heavy equipment while it was being loaded onto a trailer.
Investigators say workers were in the process of loading a wheel loader for transport when the machine’s weight suddenly shifted. As the equipment moved unexpectedly, one worker who was beneath it was trapped. Despite the quick response from emergency personnel, the worker died at the scene from the injuries sustained in the accident.
The victim’s identity has not yet been released as authorities continue notifying next of kin.
The incident remains under investigation by the Scott County Sheriff’s Office and the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA).
