Plaster, Tile, Coping, and Lighting This Pool Got a Complete Four-Layer Transformation

This pool needed everything. Instead of patching one problem at a time year after year, this LA homeowner made one decision: do it all right, all at once. ✨

The before:
❌ 14-year-old white plaster — stained, rough, flaking at the deep end
❌ Cracked concrete coping — uneven, missing sections
❌ Faded 1990s waterline tile
❌ Dim halogen lighting — one fixture completely dark

Why do all four together?
💡 One drainage, one startup — not four separate pool drains over four years
💡 Materials chosen together — coordinated design, not four separate contractor styles
💡 15–20% cost savings vs doing each separately

The after:
✨ Rich Tahoe Blue pebble plaster
✨ Baja blend travertine coping with French Pattern
✨ Sea glass blend glass mosaic waterline tile
✨ PAL LED color-changing lighting integrated with Jandy automation

Showtime Pools coordinated every element: one contact, one timeline. 🏆

Total Alkalinity or pH ? Which Do You Adjust First, and Why the Order Matters More Than the Chemicals

Most pool owners try to fix pH first. Professional pool technicians fix alkalinity first. Getting the order wrong means fighting your own chemistry and wasting product every time. 🧪

Why alkalinity comes FIRST:
Total Alkalinity is the water's resistance to pH change its 'buffer.' When TA is low, pH swings wildly with every chemical you add.

If you adjust pH first on low-alkalinity water:
• pH rises → you add acid → pH drops too far → you add base → pH rises again
This 'pH bounce' wastes chemicals while preventing any stable balance.

The correct sequence:
Step 1: Adjust total alkalinity to 80–120 ppm
Step 2: Allow 1–2 circulation cycles to distribute
Step 3: Adjust pH to 7.2–7.6
Step 4: Adjust chlorine
Step 5: Test calcium hardness and CYA

Showtime Pools sequences every chemical adjustment in the correct professional order at every visit. 📋

🧪 Chemistry bouncing despite regular treatment? Let pros handle it.

Your Sand Filter's Multiport Valve Is Leaking or Bypassing Here's What's Happening

Cloudy water despite a full filter clean. Water exiting the wrong port. Sand appearing in the pool after service. Your multiport valve might be the culprit and most homeowners never suspect it. 🔄

The multiport valve directs water flow for different modes: filter, backwash, rinse, recirculate, waste, and closed.

Common failure symptoms:
🔄 Cloudy water that won't clear — worn spider gasket allows dirty bypass, skipping filtration
🔄 Water exiting waste port during normal filtration — cracked diverter seal causing flow to wrong channel
🔄 Sand appearing in the pool — can indicate lateral crack compounded by valve bypass
🔄 Handle won't stay in position — broken spring causing partial bypass under pressure
🔄 Resistance when turning — seized o-rings from calcium; forcing it cracks the valve body

Many can be rebuilt with a gasket kit. Some require full valve replacement. We carry both. 🛠️

🔄 Filter not performing right? Let us diagnose it.

The Langelier Saturation Index The One Formula That Tells You If Your Water Is Truly Balanced

You could have perfect chlorine, pH, alkalinity, and calcium and your water could still be slowly eating your pool from the inside. The Langelier Saturation Index explains why. 🧮

The LSI combines five factors to measure whether water is in equilibrium:
1. pH | 2. Water temperature | 3. Calcium hardness | 4. Total alkalinity | 5. TDS

📉 LSI below -0.3 (CORROSIVE): Water actively dissolves plaster, etches tile grout, and corrodes metal equipment.
✅ LSI -0.3 to +0.3 (BALANCED): Neither attacking surfaces nor depositing scale. Target range.
📈 LSI above +0.5 (SCALE-FORMING): Deposits calcium on tile, plaster, and heater heat exchangers.

Why this matters: A pool can have 'correct' individual parameters but still have a negative LSI due to temperature and alkalinity interactions.

Showtime Pools calculates LSI as part of water chemistry management not just individual parameters. 💧

"The Routine Inspection Found a Bonding Issue — We Had No Idea Our Pool Had an Electrical Problem"

Some of the most important things an inspection finds are the ones you never see coming. This family had no idea their pool had a dangerous electrical issue — until Showtime checked. ⚡

A Showtime Pools client shared:
💬 "We booked the $159 inspection before our granddaughter started swimming with us for the summer. The technician found that our pool's bonding wire had corroded and separated. He explained this could allow stray electrical current in the water — something called Electric Shock Drowning. He repaired the bonding connection the same day. We cannot thank Showtime enough for finding that before our granddaughter ever got in."

Pool bonding — what it means:
⚡ Every metal component within 5 feet of a pool must be electrically connected to equalize voltage
⚡ When bonding fails, stray current can enter the water — Electric Shock Drowning (ESD)
⚡ ESD cannot be seen or smelled — swimmers feel paralysis and can't exit the water
⚡ California electrical codes require proper bonding on all residential pools

Showtime Pools checks bonding connections during every comprehensive inspection. 🛡️

⚡ When did your pool last have its bonding checked? Book an inspection.

Why Showtime Pools Invests in Ongoing Training Not Just Years of Experience

Experience matters. But in a field where equipment evolves, chemistry science advances, and California safety codes change, ongoing training matters just as much. 🎓

What experience alone doesn't give you:

🎓 Knowledge of equipment released after you started newer automation, variable speed drives, and smart systems require updated training
🎓 Current chemistry standards protocols have evolved significantly in recent years
🎓 California safety code updates: pool barrier, anti-entrapment, and electrical bonding codes change

What Showtime Pools does differently:
✅ Jandy Preferred Vendor with ongoing academy training
✅ Manufacturer certification for all equipment brands we service
✅ Regular California pool code review so our inspections reflect current requirements
✅ APSP and NSPF chemistry standard updates

Your pool deserves a team that knows today's best practices. 💪

🎓 Trust your pool to a trained and certified team.

Transforming your backyard into a stunning oasis is not just about the pool itself; it’s about creating an inviting atmosphere that draws people in. One often underestimated approach is the strategic use of outdoor furniture. Choosing the right pieces can enhance both comfort and style, making your pool area a go-to spot for relaxation and entertainment.

Think about it: a chic lounge chair paired with a stylish side table can create the perfect nook for enjoying morning coffee or evening cocktails. Opt for weather-resistant materials that not only withstand the elements but also add a touch of elegance.

Additionally, consider the arrangement of your furniture. A well-planned layout encourages conversation and interaction, turning your backyard into a vibrant gathering place. 🌞

What a Full Pool Replastering Job Actually Involves From Empty Shell to Swim-Ready

Replastering sounds like a weekend job. It's not. Here's the full process and why the first 28 days after it matters just as much as the work itself. 🏊

Day 1–2: Preparation — drain, pressure wash, chip loose plaster, apply bonding agent, install any new fittings

Day 2–3: Plaster Application — mixed on-site, applied in a single continuous session, hand-finished

Day 3–4: Fill and Startup (CRITICAL) — filled without stopping (stopping causes tide marks), brushing begins immediately

Days 5–28: Plaster Cure Period — new plaster leeches calcium requiring frequent chemistry adjustment. Incorrect startup chemistry during this phase causes PERMANENT staining.

Showtime Pools manages the full startup protocol included with every resurfacing project. 💎

🏊 Ready to resurface your pool? Let's plan it.

Your Pool Filter Pressure Gauge Is Trying to Tell You Something Here's How to Read It

That gauge on your filter has been sitting there for years and you've probably never really looked at it. It might be the most useful single piece of information on your equipment pad. 📊

📊 Establishing your baseline:
The pressure immediately after a fresh filter clean is your 'clean baseline' — typically 8–15 PSI. Write it down.

📊 When pressure rises 8–10 PSI above baseline:
Time to backwash or clean. Ignoring this restricts flow, reduces chemistry effectiveness, and strains the pump.

📊 What HIGH pressure means:
• Filter needs cleaning (most common)
• Clogged media that won't backwash clean (needs replacement)

📊 What LOW or dropping pressure means (often overlooked):
• Blocked skimmer or pump basket • Air leak on suction side • Pump impeller clog • Closed valve

Low pressure is as problematic as high pressure both mean poor circulation.

Showtime Pools checks and records filter pressure at every weekly visit. 📋
