Successful healthcare projects involve extensive research, planning, and documentation, all of which can contribute to strengthening healthcare systems. 📋

These efforts can require on-site visits. And this past month, BHI Architect and Medical Planner Rene Gasana met with the Lesotho-Boston Health Alliance and other stakeholders in Leribe and Maseru, Lesotho to talk about the development of a future medical school.

Supported by the Foundation, this project is one step closer to providing training and educational opportunities to Lesotho's next generation of healthcare workers.

This is how we design and build! 📐 🛠️

Every project that Build Health International takes on is done in partnership. And while no two projects are exactly the same, each one may include one or several of these phases.

From early planning and design to construction and implementation, these project phases reflect the collaboration and technical expertise that advance and strengthen healthcare infrastructure.

Partnership in action: building the future of rural healthcare in Tanzania.

Since 2008, the for African Medicine and Education (FAME) has grown from a single clinic into a 63-bed hospital and regional center of excellence in Karatu, Tanzania.

With support from the Izumi Foundation, this past year, BHI partnered with FAME to develop a campus development plan to enable FAME's next phase of growth: a new education center, a centralized pharmacy, expanded surgical and maternal care, and 99 beds. Each design decision was grounded in sustainable practices, from implementing solar power to water harvesting.

Proud to build toward this next chapter. 🏥 🇹🇿

Nearly six months ago, the Maternal Center of Excellence (MCOE) in Sierra Leone opened its doors, marking a significant step forward in expanding access to high-quality maternal healthcare.

Since opening, the MCOE has already supported more than 4,000 women through essential services, including prenatal care, emergency visits, cesarean deliveries, and more.

Thank you to our partners, supporters, and community members whose commitment made this milestone possible.

Snapshots from a recent electrical assessment in Haiti. 💡

When we think about healthcare access, we may think only about the clinical services.

Yet, healthcare access is so much more than that.

Healthcare access looks like a clinic that can operate without the fear of a power outage.

It looks like providing the proper technical tools, systems, and spaces that can support clinicians and patients alike.

Every day, we make small steps and strides to bring healthcare access to those who need it most, one electrical assessment at a time.
