Walk around your house on a sunny afternoon. Is the south side duller than the north side? ☀️ You're not imagining it.

Here's what's actually happening:

🔆 UV light breaks down the pigment on the surface. Only about 5% of sunlight is UV — and it's enough to do real damage.
🌡️ Infrared heat is the sneaky one. It doesn't just fade, it stresses the material and causes distortion.
🧭 South- and west-facing walls get hit hardest, which is why fade shows up unevenly instead of all at once.
📏 Here's the part nobody tells you: fading is measured. The industry scale is called Hunter units, and it's written into your warranty. Chromatix vinyl is warranted to fade as low as 3 Hunter units. James Hardie ColorPlus carries a 15-year limited finish warranty.
