Planning to travel for Thanksgiving? West Michigan is looking at Lake Effect Snow, Strong winds, and much colder temperatures.

The holiday travel period will be impacted by winter weather and strong wind gusts, with some power outages possible. The busiest travel day of the year will feature wind gusts over 40 mph (possibly reaching 50 to 60 mph along the lakeshore) and rain quickly changing to snow in the morning or by midday. Snow will initially melt on contact before temperatures get cold enough Wednesday afternoon or evening for snow to stick. Wind driven lake effect snow bands will reach far inland and cause some travel challenges Wednesday night into Thursday as temperatures stay mainly below freezing. A couple inches or more of snow are certainly possible Wednesday into Wednesday night with additional accumulations Thanksgiving. Expect delayed travel and plan ahead.
