🌧️ Rain Is a Blessing… Until It Finds a Crack in Your Asphalt. 🌧️
We’ve all welcomed the recent rains across South Texas. The tanks are filling, pastures are turning green, and the countryside is coming back to life.
But while rain is a blessing for the land, it can be one of asphalt’s biggest enemies.
Most potholes don’t appear overnight. They start as a small crack that many people hardly notice. Every rainstorm allows water to seep below the surface and into the base material. As traffic passes over that weakened area, the asphalt begins to flex, break apart, and eventually collapse.
What was once a simple crack can quickly become a pothole, creating a safety hazard and a much more expensive repair.
After heavy rains, look for:
• Standing water that doesn’t drain
• New cracks forming
• Loose gravel or aggregate on the surface
• Areas that appear sunken or soft
• Small potholes beginning to develop
The best time to repair asphalt is often before the damage becomes obvious. Preventative maintenance can add years to the life of your pavement and help avoid costly reconstruction later.
At TEXCO General Contractors, we’re already seeing the effects of the recent rains on parking lots, private roads, ranch roads, and driveways throughout South Texas.
If you notice a problem area, don’t wait until it becomes a larger repair.
A small repair today is usually much cheaper than a major repair tomorrow.
