Collaborative Design Architects Eastern Montana Modern Architecture We call it Eastern Montana Modern. It is a style that is not a style.

We are coming to understand that there is a unique culture and style of life derived from living and working in eastern Montana. Our presentation will share how our design practice draws inspiration from the landscape, history and inhabitants of the grasslands of Montana, the least-appreciated part of the Last Best Place. As architects and makers, our goal is to help the people of this region live

better lives by creating buildings and objects with a beauty and functionality embracing their values. As lived for the past two centuries, the values native to the people of eastern Montana are grit, authenticity, minimalism, community, and stewardship.

🎉 SHE DID IT! Congratulations, Alex Wright, Architect! 🎉

We couldn’t be more proud to announce that Alex Wright has passed her final Architect Registration Examination and is officially a licensed architect!

For those outside our profession, becoming an architect is no small accomplishment. The traditional path to licensure includes earning a professional degree in architecture, completing 3,740 hours of documented professional experience across multiple areas of architectural practice (average timeline of 4-6 years), and passing six separate divisions of the Architect Registration Examination (ARE).

It takes years of education, mentorship, real-world experience, late nights, and a whole lot of determination... especially when you are a spouse and parent too!!

Architects are entrusted with designing buildings and environments that protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public. That responsibility is why the road to licensure is intentionally demanding, and why earning the title Architect is such a significant professional achievement.

Alex has been an important part of our design team for years. Today, we’re incredibly proud to recognize her not only as one of our Design Leads, but as:

Alex Wright, AIA

Congratulations, Alex! You earned every letter of it.

🏡🐾 We Have a Future Home! 🐾🏡

After everything our shelter and community have been through, we are beyond excited to share some incredible news: the Waggoner family has generously donated five acres of land to become the future home of YVAS! 💚

Located on Garden Avenue near the Yellowstone River, this land will give us the space to build a permanent, 26,000-square-foot facility designed to better serve animals and our community for generations to come. 🌿🐶🐱

Our future shelter will include improved animal housing, medical and quarantine spaces, larger play yards, natural lighting, better ventilation, dedicated laundry facilities, adoption and community spaces, training classes, Critter Camps, and so much more.

This donation is a major milestone in our capital campaign and brings us one step closer to building the shelter our community and animals deserve. We are currently working toward our $12 million fundraising goal before breaking ground, with hopes of opening our new facility in fall 2028. 🏗️✨

To the Waggoner family: thank you will never be enough. Your generosity has given YVAS a permanent place to build our future—and has given us even more hope for the animals and people we serve.

We can't wait to take you with us as we build something truly special. 💚🐾

We’re excited to have Bailey with us this summer as an architectural intern from North Dakota State University. As she prepares to begin her final year of architecture school, Bailey has already proven herself to be a thoughtful, capable, and highly motivated emerging professional.

From day one, Bailey has brought a strong work ethic, keen attention to detail, and a focused approach to every project. Combined with the experience she’s already gained throughout her education, she’s become a valued member of our team and someone we can rely on to take on new challenges with confidence and professionalism.

With just one year of school remaining, we know Bailey has a bright future ahead in the architecture profession. We’re grateful to have her on our team this summer and look forward to seeing all she’ll accomplish as she completes her education and begins the next chapter of her career.

We’re grateful to have Anna join our team this summer as an architectural intern from North Dakota State University. As she heads into her final year of architecture school, she’s already demonstrated the curiosity, dedication, and attention to detail that make for an exceptional designer.

Throughout the summer, Anna has approached every opportunity with enthusiasm, professionalism, and a willingness to learn. Her thoughtful questions, strong work ethic, and engaging personality have made her a valued part of our team, and it’s been a pleasure watching her grow as an emerging professional.

With one year of school remaining, we have no doubt that Anna has a bright future ahead in the architecture profession. We’re excited to continue working alongside her this summer and look forward to seeing all that she’ll accomplish as she finishes her education and begins her career.

The City of Billings MET Addition establishes a clear civic presence for public transit through a language of transparency and contemporary materials. The addition redefines the building entry as an open, legible threshold; enhancing visibility, reinforcing wayfinding, and creating a more welcoming public interface. Carefully integrated with the existing facility, the addition elevates both function and identity while expressing the building’s civic role with clarity and intent.
