Welcome back to our Spotlight Series.

To close out the month of May, we want to recognize someone you may have already seen showing up across the industry this month.

Jacob Millwood has been part of Gridco's foundation from early on, helping build the business development and customer success functions that define how we show up for utility partners. His approach isn't just about landing work. It's about staying close to the customer once the work starts. Understanding the warehouse, the coordinators, the expectations on the ground. Making sure the relationship is solid before a problem has a chance to surface.

If you've been following along this month, you've seen Jacob at DTECH in Scottsdale, the Georgia EMC Engineering Association Meeting on St. Simons Island, and the EEI Supplier Engagement Conference in Philadelphia. That's not coincidence. That's who Jacob is.

The relationships Jacob builds don't start and end at a conference. They carry into every project, every crew, every customer we work alongside. That's the kind of presence that moves this company forward.

One thing our utility partners pick up on pretty quickly: our crews communicate.

Not just with each other on site, but with the customer. The foreman knows the coordinator. The general foreman knows the project expectations. When something comes up, we're not waiting to be told. We've already spotted it and we're bringing options to the table.

That starts with the kind of people we bring on. Linemen who've been around long enough to understand what a utility actually needs from a contractor. Foremen who care about every job like their name is on it.

Because it is.

Line work is not a job most people would choose. The hours are long, the conditions are unpredictable, and the work demands your full attention every single day.

It takes a certain kind of person to show up for that. We don't take that for granted.

What we can control is the environment we build around those people. New equipment. Honest leadership. A culture where you're not a number. Where the guy next to you has been doing this for years and actually wants to see you get better.

That's what we're building at Gridco. And we're grateful every day for the people who choose to be part of it.

Outage windows keep getting smaller, and utilities still need the work done.

What used to be a two-week outage is now two days. What used to be two days is now two hours. Our substation crews are certified to work inside substations with adjacent equipment energized, breaker changeouts, switch replacements, CT and PT swaps, equipment reconfigurations, all without requiring a full outage to get there.

It takes experienced linemen and foremen who understand exactly what's live, what's at stake, and how to move through that environment safely and efficiently. That's not something you figure out on the job. It's built over years of doing the work.

It's some of the most technically demanding work we do, and our crews don't take that lightly.

We’re happy to share photos from our team at the Georgia Power Rabbitown Substation Project last month!

Protection and automation work doesn't leave room for guessing.

From installing and commissioning relays to implementing utility-approved settings and verifying the system end-to-end, every step has to be right. Our engineering and field teams work through the full cycle together: design, installation, testing and commissioning, built around each utility's specific system requirements and approved specifications.

That's what it takes to make sure a relay does what it's supposed to do when it matters.

The grid keeps getting more complex, and we take pride knowing our crews are built to keep up with it.

The foremen on our crews don't just run jobs. They set the standard every person on that site measures themselves against.

It's not a title that comes with a manual. It's earned in the field, crew by crew, project by project. Some of our best foremen started as linemen with us. They know what it takes because they've done every part of it.

Utilities notice. We regularly have customers request specific foremen by name when new work comes up. That's not something you manufacture. That's something you build over time by putting the right people in the right roles and trusting them to lead.

We're grateful for every foreman holding the line out there.

Storm response isn't something we take lightly, and our guys in the field know that better than anyone.

When a utility calls for storm support, they're putting real trust in the crews showing up. That means our teams bring the same level of care to emergency work that they bring to any job site. Detailed plans before the trucks roll. Clear communication throughout. Honest updates to the partners from start to finish.

When the storm clears and the lights come back on, that's not just a job done. That's the team delivering when it mattered most.
