One of our favorite parts of what we do is supporting the communities around us. From charity golf tournaments to local fundraising events, we’re grateful for every opportunity to give back, build relationships, and contribute to causes that truly
matter. Shout out to the ACFA Golf tournament, CREW Golf tournament, Annual Children’s Harbor/Magic Moments Sporting Clay Shoot, Helping Hands Foundation with Bank Independent, Children’s Advocacy Center-Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit Golf Tournament, and more. Project Spotlight!
McLure Library is a historic campus landmark that has been part of the University Boulevard streetscape for more than a century. Originally constructed in 1925 and renovated in 1954 to serve the College of Education, the building has fulfilled many roles over the years for the University of Alabama. Renamed in 1974 in honor of John Rankin McLure for his significant contributions to the establishment of the College of Education at Alabama, McLure Library continues to serve as both a historic landmark and academic hub. By balancing historic preservation with modern functionality, the renovation retains McLure Library’s architectural character while enhancing ADA accessibility and expanding its role as a community-focused area. RULD thoughtfully designed the outdoor plaza to create a welcoming gathering space that encourages study, collaboration, and social interaction. With brick paving, landscaped seating areas, and improved pedestrian connections, the plaza links the library to the surrounding campus while honoring the building’s historic setting.

Since the summer, our interns have been on the go with Auburn University’s Landscape Program AU School of Architecture, Planning + Landscape Architecture
Last week, Kate and Jordan went with their Fieldwork 3
class to eleven different sites in Texas, spanning from San Antonio to Austin. They spent the week sketching in 1-point perspective of each site and space. Then, Lindsey is
spending the entire fall semester studying abroad in Japan! Here she is continuing her landscape studies all while living temporarily across the world. We are so proud of our
interns!

Last Wednesday, Renta got to play in and sponsor a tent at the 30th Annual ACFA Golf Tournament! It was a smashing success, and we hope everyone had as good of a time as we did. We love coming every year and enjoy raising money for students in Alabama. Thanks to everyone who stopped by our tent and participated!

Firm Spotlight!
Happy October! 🎃 For this month, we are spotlighting William Blackstock Architects. We have had the opportunity to work with WBA on several projects, including one of our newest, Community Food Bank of Central Alabama. Today, we are highlighting both 280 Shelby County Services and Community Foodbank. We’re grateful for the opportunity to partner with a team dedicated to creating spaces that make a lasting difference in the communities they serve.

Project Spotlight!
As the weather starts to cool down, it’s the perfect time to visit parks and be outdoors. An old favorite is Margaret Ingle Park. It was an existing 6-acre park that was transformed into an inclusive community destination designed to bring people of all ages and abilities together. Working with Cullman Parks and Recreation, Renta Urban Land Design developed the master plan, hardscape, and landscape design for the park.
Completed in 2015, the park features accessible playground structures, a butterfly garden, and different sporting places. As a trailhead to the local greenway system, Margaret Ingle Park also connects miles of sidewalks, trails, and bike paths to the local senior center, aquatic center, neighboring schools, and other nearby parks.
RULD is proud to have contributed to a project that brings recreation, connectivity, and inclusive outdoor spaces together for the Cullman community nity. Check it out before it gets

Last week, Tony and Taylor had the great opportunity to participate in the Annual Children’s Harbor/Magic Moments Sporting Clay Shoot! Children’s Harbor provides support and resources for families of children with serious illnesses, while Magic Moments creates special experiences for Alabama children facing chronic life-threatening or acute life-altering conditions. Both organizations are dedicated to bringing support, joy, and meaningful experiences to children and their families during challenging times. We were very fortunate to be apart of such a fun event that is held for a great cause!

It is officially the fall season! As of this week, subtle changes are beginning to emerge across the landscape.
Beautyberry, goldenrod, and other late-season blooms bring new color, while grasses begin to send up their plumes and trees slowly transition from green to the warm tones of
autumn. Together, these plants create a changing palette of color, texture, and movement.
These seasonal cues are a reminder of the dynamic landscapes we design with, and the beauty found in observing how they change throughout the year. Included in this post are
images from Library in the Forest and Hilltop Montessori showing off some of the best parts to come with fall.

Project Spotlight!
The Liam is situated in the beautiful Hays Farm community in Huntsville, AL and was completed in 2024. RULD was tasked with the design of the pool and courtyard areas: delivering outdoor spaces that encourage relaxation, connection, and enjoyment that align with the Liam’s message. These amenity spaces were carefully designed to extend the living experience beyond the building itself. The project reinforces The Liam’s commitment to creating a vibrant and elevated residential community.
