Now that Blizzard Elsa has finally moved on, we’re taking a second to breathe and look back on a very busy few days.
It was a wild ride, but honestly? We were so happy to be out there helping. From clearing paths for first responders and EMS services to digging out neighbors and those in the area who were completely snowed in.
Thank you to Birlings Bovines as well for helping clear the path with their tractor and equipment for one of those EMS calls, truly a community effort coming together.
As the snow quickly melts it almost feels like Blizzard Elsa was a couple weeks ago instead of a few days ago.
During the storm our volunteers were very busy. Black Creek Rescue was called out four times on Monday and three on Tuesday.
Black Creek Fire assisted twice on Monday utilizing the UTV to help navigate snow drifts and transport the patients to an area where the ambulance waited to provide transport. Black Creek Fire once again assisted on Tuesday at one call to help lift and provide patient care.
After the storm was over and many were still digging out Black Creek Fire was called once again in the early morning hours Wednesday to a CO2 alarm in a residence.
Black Creek Fire and Rescue had some amazing assistance surrounding these calls.
A local fireman heard the first Black Creek Rescue call and offered to es**rt the ambulance to the scene with his plow. He plowed through 3 foot drifts on a country road allowing the responders to timely care for the patient. In Seymour an Outagamie County Plow intercepted the ambulance and es**rted them to the Brown County Line, where a Brown County Plow took over and continued es**rting the ambulance to the hospital.
While returning from this call a second call came in. Due to road conditions and being closer to Green Bay, Black Creek Rescue reached out to Seymour Rescue to assist. While Seymour began providing care for the patient, after Black Creek Rescue arrived patient care was transferred.
Scott Marcks Trucking also reached out through the storm offering snow plowing assistance to Black Creek Fire & Rescue during the storm.
Furthermore we had two of our volunteer members of Black Creek Rescue who packed their bags and some food and camped out at the station through the storms. While volunteers often respond to the station from their homes it was great uncertainty that a crew could make the drive during the storm. These two volunteers sacrificed being with their families and sleeping in their own bed to be available if needed.
We are so greatly appreciative to all those who helped during the storm. Thank You to our volunteers, our neighboring departments, the Outagamie and Brown County Snow Plow workers, and the support of area businesses. We are very grateful and value these community relationships.
Now that Blizzard in Elsa is merely a memory we would like to wish everyone a Happy Spring!
