Your HVAC system does more than heat and cool your home. It plays a big role in the air you breathe every day. Here are two signs your system may not be doing its job:

✅Declining Indoor Air Quality - Dust, stale air, or lingering odors may indicate your HVAC system isn’t circulating and filtering air effectively.

✅Burning or Musty Odors - Smells that appear when the system is running could signal overheating components or moisture issues inside the unit. These problems should be evaluated quickly.

If something seems off with your air quality, trust your instincts. These are the kinds of things that are always worth a closer look. That said, we're always happy to help point you in the right direction. Feel free to book an appointment with us today, and our Northern Heating and Cooling team can help address these issues.

Is your HVAC system trying to tell you something? Don't wait for a full breakdown. Here are three warning signs that it may be time to consider a replacement:

✅Higher Energy Bills - If your bill keeps climbing but usage hasn’t changed, your system may be losing efficiency as it ages.

✅Frequent Repairs - Repeated breakdowns aren’t normal and can indicate that your system has exceeded its product service life. If internal parts keep failing, replacing the entire system is often more cost-effective than ongoing repairs.

✅Extended lifespan - The average HVAC unit lasts 10 to 20 years, but some need replacement around the 15-year mark. If your HVAC unit is in this age range, it could be worth considering if upgrading to a new unit makes sense for your situation.

If any of these sound familiar to you, our Northern Heating & Cooling team is here to help. Reach out to us anytime — we'd love to walk you through your options and help you find the best solution for your home and budget.

Your home should feel comfortable in every room. If it doesn’t, your HVAC system might be why.

Here are two signs worth paying attention to when it comes to your comfort:

✅Hot or Cold Spots - When some rooms never reach the right temperature, that can be a sign of declining performance, airflow imbalance, or a system struggling to distribute conditioned air evenly.

✅Weak or Inconsistent Airflow - If vents aren’t pushing out strong, steady air, internal components may be wearing out. Poor airflow reduces comfort and forces the system to work harder than necessary.

These issues can chip away at your comfort long before a full breakdown, so catching them early makes all the difference. If you've been noticing either of these, we'd love to help you figure out what's going on. Don’t hesitate to reach out to our Northern Heating & Cooling team today!

As outdoor temperatures climb, many homeowners notice their cooling systems running longer, energy bills rising, and some rooms feeling less comfortable than others. When this happens, the solution is often about more than adjusting the thermostat.

One helpful approach is to promote the circulation of cool air throughout your home without using your HVAC system.

Here are two strategies that you can use to promote circulation:

🔵 Improve nighttime ventilation - Nighttime temperatures usually drop below daytime highs, so take advantage of those cooler evenings. Open windows early in the morning or late in the evening when outdoor temperatures are lower than indoor temperatures to let cooler air in.

🔵 Consider adding fans throughout the house - When outdoor temperatures drop in the evening, fans draw cooler air in and push hot air out through attic vents, reducing the need for overnight air conditioning. Consider adding portable fans in rooms that do not already have ceiling fans.

Small adjustments like these can help create more balanced temperatures throughout the home while easing the workload on your cooling system.

While these strategies can help give your HVAC system a break, they can’t avoid issues or breakdowns outright. If you have any problems this summer, give Northern Heating & Cooling a call. We’re here to help keep you cool!

During the summer, many homeowners find that their homes still feel uncomfortable even when the thermostat shows a reasonable temperature. In many cases, humidity plays a major role in how cool (or warm) a space actually feels.

Comfort indoors is not determined solely by temperature. When moisture levels are high, the air can feel heavier and warmer, making it harder to feel truly comfortable.

One way to improve indoor comfort is to find solutions to manage indoor humidity. If the air is too humid, it can make your home feel warmer than it actually is. Using a portable or whole-home dehumidifier can help remove that moisture, allowing the space to feel cooler and more comfortable. Addressing humidity levels can often improve comfort and even help your cooling system operate more efficiently during the warmer months.

If you experience any HVAC issues during the summer, you can always call Northern Heating & Cooling. We are here to keep you comfortable all year.

When summer heat settles in, many homeowners start to notice their cooling systems working harder, energy costs creeping up, and certain areas of the home feeling warmer than others.

Improving comfort during the warmer months can begin by limiting the amount of additional heat generated indoors. Here are two simple adjustments that can help:

✅ Be mindful of heat-producing appliances - Everyday appliances like ovens, stovetops, and clothes dryers generate noticeable warmth while in use. Running dishwashers and laundry machines during the evenings, when it’s cooler, can help prevent adding extra heat during the hottest part of the day.

✅ Upgrade your lighting - Traditional incandescent bulbs release more heat than many people realize. If you haven’t already switched, LED lighting can help reduce indoor heat and improve energy efficiency.

Small changes in daily habits can make a meaningful difference in maintaining more consistent comfort and easing the workload on your cooling system throughout the summer.

We hope you find these tips helpful! And, as always, if you have any HVAC needs or experience any issues this summer, don’t hesitate to give the Northern Heating & Cooling team a call. We are here to help keep you cool!
