Rain Garden Update! After re-shaping this formerly soggy yard, creating structure to stop erosion and flowing water, our hardscaping and native plantings, are flourishing!

Dormant native perennials like Lucerne, Spotted Bee Balm, Swamp Hibiscus, Cinnamon Ferns, and more, are waking up from their winter slumber, and filling in their new habitat!

We can't wait to continue checking in on this space, and watch the habitat flourish!

Let's talk Woodchips!

I've worked on a lot of farms, in a lot of places. And something that I saw over an over again, were swampy flooded garden pathways.

When we farm or garden, we disturb a lot of dirt. Often, our raised beds inadvertently create channels for water to flow, creating scary little rivers!

These rivers can suck away nutrients, and even plants. So Let's do our best to slow water down, and utilize it.

I love using woodchips in my garden pathways for many reasons, but I'll stick to one, today:

All of that fibrous woody material that makes up a woodchip (AKA Carbon) acts as an AWESOME Sponge, when in contact with water.

The woodchips Soak up excess water in heavy rain events 💧 and release that water slowly, in times of drought 🌞

They are self regulating, and require ZERO maintenance!

I've got 3 other reasons that I love woodchips: stay tuned for the deets!
