On larger custom homes like this, it’s not uncommon for multiple phases to happen at the same time. While one crew is starting framing, another is still completing foundation work on a different section of the house.

Walk the Job with Ray

Today we’re talking about Sherwin-Williams High Build Primer and why it matters in a luxury custom home.

High build primer goes on much thicker than standard primer — almost like adding 2–3 extra coats during the prep stage. Its job is to help fill minor imperfections, create a smoother finish, and give the final paint coat a more consistent appearance.

A high-end finish doesn’t happen by accident. It comes from the products, the prep work, and the attention to detail before the final coat ever goes on.

That’s the difference in building a true luxury custom home.

Today, we’re out at the Strickland Residence in Clinton, South Carolina, where major progress is happening on the foundation phase of this custom home.

Our cast-in-place foundation walls are complete, waterproofing is underway, and gravel is being installed and graded in preparation for the basement slab.

This stage is one of the most important parts of the entire build process. Proper drainage, waterproofing, and foundation preparation are critical — especially when building a long-lasting luxury custom home.

A strong home starts well below the finished surfaces.
