Do you think when Metallica sings “Wherever they may roam….wanderer…” that they’re singing about roof leaks?? And how water 💦 roams and wanders around on a roof until it finds a place to rest?
Well tats exactly what water does! As we’ve said before, asphalt shingles don’t keep water out of your house, the underpayment and flashings are supposed to. But when those are NOT installed correctly, water will wander and roam and find a way into your house.
Check it out - one piece of step flashing along the wall-line of this early 1990s home that has had a roof replaced 20 years ago is the cause of their moisture intrusion for the past 20years!
Not sure why the roof installer from 20years ago wasn’t called out to fix a leak after they put a new roof on, and not sure how homeowners can live with a defect like this for 20years, but since it was leaking into their unfinished garage it must’ve not been super concerning.
These types of defects are very concerning for us when we replace roofs, which is why we scrutinize every detail to make sure the roof system, regardless of product, is installed correctly.
