We are fortunate to live in such a pretty area and todays weather could not have been much better this time of year so,,,,, consider making sure your pipes are not going to freeze when its cold.
Now is a good time to look at areas you may have had problems with and add a little extra insulation to piping and areas open to outside conditions. Inspect hose bibs and remove hoses during freezing weather.
If you have a well, inspect it now for insulation and now is a good time to prevent mice from damaging well piping and pump components. Mice are attracted to wells for nesting and getting away from cold weather. Its really a good idea to keep the mice out, by doing so you don't attract snakes.
Do you know where your septic tank is? Now is a good time to learn and most of the time its as easy as calling your local Environmental Health Dept. and request a drawing of your septic tank location and field design. If your home was built since 1999, your septic tank has a filter that should be cleaned. Through the report you will learn the size and if a filter is present.
Hope everyone is doing well and all your plumbing problems are small.

This is a good fix and one I have used for a customer that really wants to keep a certain type or hard to match color toilet.

Save some money and headaches,
Now is the time to disconnect your garden hose from the hose bib. Most homes have hose bibs that are resistant to freezing because it actually shuts off within the interior of your home. If the garden hose is not removed the hose bib cant drain and may freeze and break.
Its those small things we can miss out on that become much bigger issues. Look into places you had problems with freezing last year and add a little more insulation.
Hope all the upcoming holidays are the best ever for everyone. God Bless

Now is the time to add some insulation to the places you worried about freezing.
Remember last winter when your well house became an issue of concern or maybe it was that water line that has been a problem since your first winter in your home?
Adding a little insulation and time now while its warm pays off with a little less stress later. If its a well house, add some plastic to cover any insulation and while you are at it add some mouse bait to prevent damage mice cause to wiring and piping.

Recently I was reminded of an issue many homeowners come to accept as part of the homes character. Noises ,, "a bumping sound" in the wall, ceiling or under the floor. Many notice them as the ice maker shuts off or a washer stops water flow. Quick/Self closing valves stop the water flow suddenly and create a "hammer" effect. if your water piping is not secured well it can cause a noise, a banging sound.
I have had customers repost a dripping sound. We often find when the hot water is used and pipes expand the pipe hangers cause this sound.
In trying to locate the issues and find ways to limit noise look at your water heater and confirm there is an expansion tank in good working order. Check your water pressue and confirm your pressure are not excessive. Normal water pressure is between 40 and 60 pounds.
There are times when hearing a familiar noise is kind of comforting I guess but if you have noises in your plumbing, knowing why helps a lot.
On behalf of everyone at Service Plumbing and Septic. thank you for the confidence and work you have trusted us with. We are growing to better serve our community and have updated our equipment to better inspect drain piping and record to video any damage found and plan a repair with confidence.
