Classes are back in session and 210 Mulberry is ready for it.

This building began as a dream more than ten years ago, and it stands today because hundreds of people believed the next generation was worth investing in, giving more than $3.8 million in gifts, services, and generosity to make it real. We were honored to walk alongside Encounter Campus Ministry, BLDD Architects, Inc., and everyone who carried that vision, helping turn a decade of hope into a place students can walk into every day.

It's now home to Lab Coffee, Truth in Love Counseling, and Encounter Campus Ministry which together cover much of what a student needs over the course of a year. Students from Illinois State University, Illinois Wesleyan University, and Heartland Community College will settle in at Lab with a laptop for a few hours or meet a friend between classes, build friendships at Encounter that stay with them long after graduation, and find support for their mental health right there in the same building.

This is a good week to stop by, grab a coffee, and see what students and neighbors in the Town of Normal - Government are making of the place. Here's to building spaces that help people flourish.

A week after the storms rolled through, our community is still healing from the storms, but it’s looking a whole lot better, and that is because of the people who went to work the moment the wind stopped.

Thank you to the crews at the Town of Normal - Government and the City of Bloomington, Illinois, the line workers who put the power back on, the tree and debris crews who worked long hours in the heat, and the emergency response teams who were out there before most of us were awake. Thank you also to the neighbors who showed up with chainsaws and generators and a willingness to help whoever needed it.

This week, we feel especially grateful to build in a community where people take care of each other. We're proud to call this place home.

Our community was hit hard by severe weather yesterday, Aug 13th, with storms continuing overnight.

While our office is closed today without power, our team is out cleaning up our job sites; others are out helping their neighbors clear trees and debris and get water out of basements.

We're thankful for the line workers, clean up crews, and emergency response teams who have quickly jumped into action, and grateful to be a part of a community that takes the time to show up for our neighbors.

When John Carter, President and CEO of nearly-100-year-old Jack Lewis Jewelers set out to build a new flagship in Bloomington, Illinois, he faced a problem: fitting a full luxury retail experience (tripled case space, a three-bench goldsmith shop, a private bridal suite, an accredited gem lab, a full bar, and a rooftop terrace) onto a piece of land that is under an acre.

The solution was to build up rather than out, turning a standard single-story retail project into a two-story build with a dramatic 23-foot ceiling, custom laser-cut lattice screens, and light-industrial infrastructure (dedicated polishing room, ventilation, and dust collection) folded seamlessly into a luxury shell. Every detail, down to a legacy display case built to hold decades of the store's history, had to make the building carry the weight of a century-old story, not just house new fixtures.

Case space grew from roughly 170 to nearly 400 linear feet, the business added a third goldsmith and a new luxury brand partnership, and the rooftop now hosts client events and community gatherings. Long-time customers walk in and, as Carter describes it, react with disbelief: "I can't believe this place... it makes you proud of your town, doesn't it?" For Carter, the building fulfills a promise nearly a century in the making, and he calls it, without hesitation, "the nicest thing I've ever built in my life," a testament to what's possible when technical ex*****on remains disciplined in service of a client's vision.

The Habitat for Humanity of McLean County & ReStore in the City of Bloomington, Illinois recently celebrated a ribbon-cutting for the new doors and vestibule we had the privilege of building and installing. Celebrating milestones like these with our partners is always an honor.

That same week, our partnership continued in a different form, as we joined Habitat's team on a visit to see an innovative approach to housing construction using 3D-printed concrete.

The search for what's next and bringing new and innovative solutions to our partners and communities is what we believe being catalytic looks like.

Congratulations to the Habitat for Humanity team on this milestone, and thank you for allowing us to continue building alongside you.

Our clients and partners trust us with their time, their budgets, and their vision, and we take that seriously every single day. Dependability is quiet work, but it's the foundation everything else is built on.

This week, our team came together for our Annual Friends and Family Night.

We had dinner, prizes, and played games together, and for a few hours, it became exactly what we hope every space we build becomes, a place where people feel connected.

Being relational is one of our core values, and this is what it looks like in one of its simplest forms. We're always looking for ways to bring people together, one connection at a time.

Thank you to everyone who came out. We can't wait to do it again.

At Catalyst, every project starts with a relationship. Before we talk budgets or blueprints, we sit down with our clients and ask what matters most to them and what success looks like from their perspective.

We recently celebrated the ribbon cutting of 210 Mulberry in Normal, Illinois (Town of Normal - Government) a building that now serves as home to Lab Coffee, Truth in Love Counseling, and Encounter Campus Ministry.

This project sits right in the heart of the Illinois State University campus, and it has been years in the making. Over the better part of a decade, our team had the opportunity to help imagine what this space could become, bringing our commercial real estate, development, and construction expertise together to turn an idea into a place the community can actually walk into and use.

What made this milestone so meaningful was seeing how many people came together to make it happen. Hundreds of community members contributed more than 3.8 million dollars in gifts, services, and generosity to create a space where students can gather, find support, and build lasting connections during some of the most formative years of their lives.

We're grateful for everyone who poured into this project, especially the teams at BLDD Architects, Inc., our donors, trade partners, and town and campus leaders who walked alongside us from the first conversation to the final walkthrough.

This is what we mean when we talk about building spaces that help people flourish. A building becomes so much more than steel and concrete when it is shaped around the people who will spend their days there.
