Tree foam-This occurs when rain water dissolves chemicals from the treebark as it flows down the stem of the tree. This changes the surface tension of the water, so that when it drips down towards the base of the tree, air is introduced due to the turbulence of the water, and foam is formed because of the altered surface tension.

First time seeing a slug caterpillar, they are lot more interesting when they are in their larvae state like this one. They also have a few stinging hairs along their back so don't touch them. Sadly the adults only turn into a plain brown moth.

This is the Dusky Birch Sawfly, he loves your river birch trees this time of year. Damage will be many missing leaves on a a branch with only the center stem of the leaf left.

The eastern white pine weevil is consider the most destructive pest for white pines in North America. The dead "Shepard's hook" look of the main leader is a sure sign of the pine weevil. It also can infect Colorado, Blue, Norway and Serbian spruces as well as Scots, Red, Pitch, Jack and Austrian pines. They prefer trees between 3 and 20 ft in direct sun to help with incubation.
