Nothing better than garden fresh food in the summer! We're enjoying salads with every meal right now and are even blessed with a nice flush of Winecap mushrooms. Soon enough these eggs will come from food homestead as well.

Enjoy high quality, living food each and every day from your landscape. Enjoy the process of preparing, growing and sharing in the experience with your friends and family.

Cold temps are coming starting tonight...should you be concerned with losing some of your fruit crops? I have some concern but this chart helps me feel a little more comfortable as long as the temperatures stay in the 30's.

Wait to plant out your warm season vegetables though!

Hey Minne-snowtans, it's time to sow those cool season crops!

Our new raised beds with low tunnels are working great, allowing us to have lots of seeds already germinated outdoors!

We've sowed: peas, arugala, spinach, kale, lettuce, beets, turnips and radishes. Think about all the springs salads to complement the foraging of wild greens.

This could be your year to get started. I help people design eco friendly, edible landscapes and transition plans; making this step forward easy peasy.

What is it about growing a garden that feels so right when things feel a little off? The simplicity of observing a natural process of a seed sprouting to bearing fruit reminds me of what's important. This is a time to slow down and take in what's happening around you. The birds are chirping, the buds are swelling, the perennial landscape is continuing on without hesitation. Spring is here, we get on with it.

It's time to prep the gardens for what should be our biggest harvest yet. I'm happy to help this be a bountiful year for you as well. Drop me a line any time.

No better time than now to build todays version of a Victory Garden...pandemic style.

We're expanding our kitchen garden with ease of access as the leading requirement so we're able to grow and harvest more then ever with lower time and energy demands.

It will be hard to miss a ripe tomato or perfect radish being right outside of our favorite window view. I always suggest placing your veg garden in the closest place possible to the door or kitchen.

Will you try growing more food this year? Let me know if you need any tips.

It's early March in Minneapolis Minnesota and the Maple sap is flowing! Now's the time to tap your trees if you want to try making Maple Syrup or Maple Sugar.

It's so simple, all you'll need is a way to drill a hole, a tap and a bucket/hose.

Don't go too deep, the sap flows in the outer 1" or so of the tree and this is where you'll want your tap to be. Check your buckets daily to see how much you've collected and once you have your desired amount, it's time to start boiling.

Boiling, or evaporating as it's called, can be done on the stove top or outside. I prefer to build a nice evaporator outside as the cool weather will promote faster evaporation of the water in the sap. This process takes a while and the final few minutes are the most crucial so make sure to start early in the day.

Enjoy and stay tuned for a video on turning Sap into Syrup!
