🦇 PSA: BATS ARE OUT — KNOW WHAT TO DO! 🦇

Seeing a bat flying around your home or neighborhood can be startling, but bats play an important role in our ecosystem by helping control insect populations.

Lee's Summit Animal Control wants you to know the following:
If you find a bat inside your home:
🦇 DO NOT TOUCH IT & DO NOT TRY TO CATCH IT! Never handle a bat with your bare hands.
🚪 Close doors to contain the bat to one area.
🪟 Open a window or exterior door and turn off the lights to give the bat a chance to escape.
👀 Keep children and pets away from the bat.
☎️ If the bat has had contact with a person or pet, seek appropriate medical or veterinary guidance and contact your local animal control agency.

To prevent bats in your home:
🔒Seal up gaps and cracks around your home, roofline, vents, and chimneys. They can fit into very tiny openings.
