This weekend, we continued a long-standing tradition of passing the yard work to my son. This experience reminded me of a valuable lesson in training. I realized I had forgotten the little nuances and tricks that make mowing easier and the yard look cleaner. I had to be patient and accept that mowing would take longer in the coming weeks as I offloaded that knowledge, trained, retrained, and led with patience.
This leads me to reflect on my role as a leader at work and in other areas of my life. We often rush through tasks because we feel busy, struggling to delegate responsibilities with the mindset of "we don’t have time."
Change is challenging, patience is difficult, and growth requires effort. If it were easy, it wouldn’t transform us or elevate us to our next potential level.
I’ve decided to eliminate the phrase "we don’t have time" from my vocabulary. If something is important, we will prioritize it. If it contributes to our growth, we will embrace the discomfort that comes with it, knowing the end result is worth it.
My daughter's high school dance team won nationals this year, and their mantra was: "IT WILL BE WORTH IT!" Late nights, early mornings, slower task completion, frustration, and patience will all be worth it.
