Get creative with how you anchor your landscape.

A unique, personal piece tucked along the driveway can create a little hidden gem—something that catches your eye as you approach and makes the landscape feel uniquely yours.

It’s the unexpected details that make a space special.

I’ve always valued the creative process of drawing and seeing an idea take shape on paper.

Hand-drawn landscape designs allow me to thoughtfully communicate the vision, capture the details, and create a design that feels personal to each client and their space.

A well-shaped tree can define an entire garden. Most people don't realize the space they're sitting on.

The biggest thing to remove: branches growing inward. They crowd the canopy, block light, and create a tangled interior that works against the tree's natural form. Take those out first.

From there, it's about thinning — not cutting back — so air and light move through freely and the tree's true structure starts to show.

That structure is what makes a garden feel anchored. A tree shaped with intention becomes a focal point, a canopy, a room.

It's something I love to help with — whether that's a guidance session in your garden or working it into a full design.

The best gardens aren't perfect on day one — they're designed to grow richer every season.

That's what we build toward: structure that holds, plants that perform, a space that gets better with time.

If yours isn't there yet, let's talk. dirt-canvas.com

You don't need a blank slate to work with a garden designer.
Some of my favorite projects start with a yard that already has good bones. What it needs isn't a rebuild — it needs a fresh perspective and someone to see what it could be.
If your garden feels almost there but not quite — that's exactly the right time to call.

Every great garden starts somewhere. This one started with an extended concrete patio and a new fence.
Hardscape first, softscape second. Structure before beauty. We laid the foundation with a stamped concrete patio — and now the real fun begins.
Phase 1 complete. Stay tuned.

No two gardens I design look the same — because no two clients are the same.

One yard needed a quiet corner for someone who works from home. Another needed a cutting garden because she lights up around flowers. One was entirely shaped around a couple dogs who get into everything🐾

The brief always starts with the people, not the plants.

That's what makes it stick. dirt-canvas.com

The best design inspiration isn't in a magazine. It's outside.
How a hillside layers itself. How a meadow never plants in straight lines. How a forest edge creates depth by letting plants overlap toward the light.
Nature has been designing longer than any of us. The best gardens borrow from what it already knows.

Before: sharp corners, everyone cutting through the beds.
After: a gentle mound at each turn, anchored with plantings that spill into the edge. The path now leads you exactly where it's supposed to go.
Sometimes the smallest changes make the biggest difference.

Shade gardens are my favorite to design. And they are wildly underrated.
People assume shade means limited options. It actually means layered textures, unexpected color, and a lushness that full sun gardens rarely achieve.
One of my absolute favorites: Brunnera. Heart shaped leaves with stunning silver markings, delicate blue spring flowers, and foliage that gets more beautiful all season. The kind of plant that makes people stop and ask what it is.
A shady corner isn't a problem. It's an opportunity.
