We'll Make Sure You Have a Sunny Day!
Good Morning Friends,
It amazes me how flipping the calendar can make such a difference. It's a new year but also a new spring, and it's right around the corner! We are very seasonal, just like a garden. There is something about the calendar saying January that makes the tune change. Spring gardening supplies start rolling in. Pansies get planted, and sweet onions are sown. Produce growing seminars attended. Budgets fine-tuned; price lists updated.
It's the anticipation that I like the most. The certainty of a brand-new spring is delightful. The new flowers, shrubs, and trees. The smell of a fresh load of mulch, the splash and sparkle of water fountains, birds singing, and more. Getting to see all of you folks again tops the list. What we do all winter would be pointless if we couldn't look forward to your smiling faces!
Some of us are attending MANTS, Mid-Atlantic Nursery Trade Show in the Baltimore Convention Center this week. It's a huge underground venue with hundreds of exhibitors. It's a good way to start the year. We get to meet many of our vendors from all over the country, see the new and greatest plants they offer, what's in the pipeline, and more. It's an excellent way to get inspired for the season! Just a few more weeks of winter!
You all take care,
~Ethan Weber

House Plants
Indoor plants are the bomb! Green helps you relax. Puts oxygen and moisture in the air. We have, low light, short stature, or larger floor options available. Prices range from $22 - $52.
Strawberry/Rhubarb Pie
Yumm! A taste of spring. Strawberries, rhubarb, warm soil, and sweet smells. Do you want to grab a pie and taste spring? It's fresh baked. Price is $13.99.
Since our gardens are sleeping for the winter, we have replaced our ‘Now’s the Time’ section with a ‘How Should I?’ section to answer some common garden and landscape dilemmas. We hope you enjoy reading them. If you have a topic you would like answered; please let us know! If you like our ‘Now’s the Time’ section, it will be back when our gardens wake up in the spring.
How Should I Build a Wall?
We live in a beautiful section of the country. Scenery and Nature abound to the point that we take them for granted until we drive to Indiana to see the boring, flat land. Most times, we are content to drive back to our beautiful hill country until we drive in our lane and see our retaining wall that is no longer retaining! Hills are beautiful, but they present a challenge.
Would you park your car beside this wall? How long will that basement door still come open? Why do some walls last for 100s of years, and some can barely make it through a couple of freeze/thaw cycles? If I invest money in a new wall at my house, how can I be assured that it will last a LOOOONG time? This article aims to answer those questions.
