It has been a pleasure having Du Nghiem join us at Annum for her summer internship!

As Du prepares to return to Rice University for her Master of Architecture studies, she treated us to an Open Studio presentation of her research, “On Adaptation”. This work asks what happens when architecture is treated not as a finished object, but as something continually reshaped by the people who inhabit it. Beginning with resident adaptations of collective housing in Hanoi, she traces how shared spaces, informal interventions, and everyday rituals transform domestic environments. Her research at Rice and fieldwork in Mexico City expand this inquiry into the spaces between the individual home and the collective. Du’s Open Studio culminated in a design project on Puerto Rico that asks whether architecture can anticipate – and make room for – this continual process of adaptation.

Thanks to Du for sharing with us her thoughtful and compelling work. We wish her the best of luck for another inspiring school year!

Last week’s Facades+ Boston was a huge success!

Rita Terjeki of Annum Architects and Danniely Staback Rodríguez of STUDIO ENÉE Architects presented their session on La CASA: Center for Arts, Self-determination and Activism – the new multipurpose headquarters for IBA - Inquilinos Boricuas en Acción in Boston’s historic South End. Moderated by Stephanie Salsman of Bruner/Cott, the session covered the building’s facade design and how it responds to IBA’s mission.

Thank you to The Architect’s Newspaper for hosting this excellent conference, and for showcasing the design of impactful projects such as La CASA.

The Phillips Academy Graves Hall team had a blast celebrating our 2026 Paul & Niki Tsongas Award at the Preservation Massachusetts Awards Ceremony at Fenway Park!

Pictured in the first photo, Annum’s Josh Aisenberg and Phillips Academy’s Joan Maguire accepted our team’s plaque from Jessica Rudden-Dube of Preservation Massachusetts. The Tsongas Award is the highest honor from Preservation Massachusetts, recognizing people and projects that have displayed outstanding commitment to historic preservation in the Commonwealth.

Graves Hall has served Phillips Academy in Andover for nearly a century and a half, supporting evolving academic and administrative needs while maintaining its architectural character. This renovation reflects the Academy’s commitment to stewardship, ensuring that Graves Hall continues to serve the institution’s mission well into the future.

It was a thrill to celebrate this accomplishment along with other awardees dedicated to preserving the important history and landmarks of our communities.

Emma Willard School’s Alice Dodge Wallace ’38 Center for the Performing Arts has been selected as a Special Mention in the Architizer A+Awards for the Architecture +Context Category!

The Architizer A+Awards is the largest awards program focused on promoting and celebrating the year’s best architecture. Its mission is to nurture the appreciation of meaningful design in the world and champion its potential for a positive impact on everyday life.

The Wallace Center places dance, theater, music, and community at the heart of the Emma Willard School campus, repurposing a 1910 chapel as a multipurpose theater and adding a new arts wing, set into the landscape, with dance, studio, and orchestra rehearsal spaces. Founded in 1814, Emma Willard School in Troy, New York is a national leader in education for young women. Emma Willard has a long commitment to the arts as common ground. This center offers every student and faculty member a chance to participate, to assemble, and to connect.

Thank you to Architizer for this exciting recognition!

As Shelburne Museum prepares to open for the season on May 9th, construction continues to move forward on the new Perry Center for Native American Art— a transformative project dedicated to the stewardship, exhibition, and celebration of Indigenous creative culture.

Designed in collaboration with Two Row Architect and Reed Hilderbrand Landscape Architecture, the building and surrounding landscape draw inspiration from traditional Native American structures and relationships to the land. Throughout the design process, the project team has worked closely with representatives from Vermont’s four Abenaki Bands, as well as Indigenous scholars, Tribal members, and culture bearers from across the country through a series of pre-design Talking Circles that continue to inform the work today.

We are proud to share that Phillips Academy in Andover has received a 2026 Paul & Niki Tsongas Award from Preservation Massachusetts for the recent renovation of Graves Hall! This highest honor from Preservation Massachusetts recognizes people and projects that have displayed outstanding commitment to historic preservation in the Commonwealth.

Graves Hall has served the Academy for nearly a century and a half, supporting evolving academic and administrative needs while maintaining its architectural character. This renovation and adaptive reuse reflects Phillips Academy’s commitment to stewardship, ensuring that Graves Hall continues to serve the institution’s mission well into the future.

Working with construction manager BW Kennedy & Co., Annum’s design repositions the building as a centralized administrative hub, balancing contemporary operational requirements with the careful preservation of character‑defining features. Through architectural restoration, sensitive spatial adaptation, and comprehensive systems upgrades, the project honors the building’s layered history while enabling its next chapter as an integral part of campus life.

We are thrilled to celebrate this accomplishment on June 11th at Fenway Park along with other awardees dedicated to preserving the important history and landmarks of our communities.

Congratulations to Phillips Academy and the whole project team!
