Getting close to the finish line here at the Dragon House. taking care of our asphalt, rubber and slate repairs, on a really nice spring day

SOUND ON for this one!! Yesterday I assembled some of the new mahogany, custom diamond top windows for the dragon house, after the old ones were destroyed by a haphazard “clean out” company. Turns out even broken old window sashes should be saved because we can FIX them… happened before we got on this project, so I digress. These new ones will be even nice, with dual panel insulated glass and effective weather stripping for air control.

Six walls, two windows and six ceiling sections here, but the vibe is the same as the turret. Hexagons and diamonds all around this place. Plaster is getting close to being done and then it’s time to get lots of millwork back together here at the Dragon House 🐉

The turret nook here at the Dragon House is getting plaster details wrapped up by the always excellent crew from Oliver Plastering with tons of funky angles (this whole house is angles!) but making it look easy and clean.

We still have some trim to do here, make a few custom window sashes and some floor to install, but after that, we are ready to start getting some paint going.

Here’s a cool mention of our current project aka The Dragon House over in Jamaica Plain. The house was featured in the Buildings Of Massachusetts written by Keith N Morgan. The home, built in 1871 by a very talented carpenter named Archibald Scott atop a stone quarry hill, is unique to say the least. The views from the cupola are high enough that you have a wonderful 360° view of Boston and surrounding areas, and the sunsets are beyond spectacular. We just need to fix the windows up there, damaged during the fire, and we will show you what I mean. Stay tuned!

Have you ever seen a weirder Boston home??

getting shiny in the afternoon sun here at the Dragon House. Framing coming right along thanks to and it’s been no easy feat due to the strangeness and unique design of this wild house! Hexagonal framing and strapping visible on the ceiling behind our PM Thom here. Always a challenge but finding the solutions is what we do 😎

A beautiful shot of the dining room from our 1740 farmhouse build from the recent article. Design done by the wonderfully talented and shot by .

Those beams in the dining room ceiling aren’t structural, as there’s actually a 2x6 12ga steel framing system in the entire second and third floor. But the wood came from three large hemlock trees that we felled early in the build. I used many implements like knives, axes and a great convex planer blade setup from to achieve that hand hewn look.

Here’s a really nice write up from on the farmhouse build / reno we did back in 2022-2023, collaborating with and many other talented subs that we’ll link to this as well.

This was the biggest and longest project we’ve ever done, with many unique challenges and problems to solve. Was it easy? No way, it pushed me way out of my comfort zone, but the lessons I learned during the work are burned deep into my brain and now into our processes.

I’ll go into the challenges deeper at some point, but for now just scope out the great article and lovely photos, as it did all come together quite beautifully.
