While you are sitting inside on this cold, snowy weekend in January, take a moment to view Fine Gardening's short feature vide of my garden taken this past September. It was fun to set aside the 'To Do' list and reminisce about what I love about the garden. Fear not, soon it will be Spring and time to get back out there!

This Spring, I offered an educational series of classes to share what gardening tasks need to be done at various times during the growing season. The participants have been troopers - coming to learn about early Spring pruning on a 30F morning in March and learning more pruning techniques in May. Finally, they were rewarded with a sunny Saturday for a class on cutting back perennials. It’s a treat to share my own personal garden with this small group of dedicated amateur and master gardeners over the course of a whole season of change. They will see how a bit of effort, at the right time, can direct growth and foster an attractive structure for trees, shrubs and plants in their own gardens.

It is justice well served when the lifetime achievement of a beloved mortal is acknowledged. Terry Duffy - our Operations manager - was honored recently by the Boston Architectural College (BAC) as a Distinguished Alumni in Landscape Architecture. This award recognizes an alumnus who has made significant contributions to the field of landscape architecture and actively mentors the next generation of designers. Terry embodies both criteria - he supports and helps manifest our designers' vision in the field for each client as well as mentors his past BAC students, the CD & Co crew and the CD & Co designers. Just looking at him, you may not know that he is a renaissance man of the Horticultural field. It is with great enthusiasm that we celebrate Terry, his award and what he has brought to Christie Dustman & Co over the past 8 years.

Where do you go to recharge when you make your living surrounded by plants and trees? Well, the Sahara desert, of course. I came home with a fresh perspective and am ready for our green season ahead. Thanks to for capturing this amazing moment.

Always ON my shoulder - My Dad Elmer has had a huge impact on shaping my life and showing me how to shape plants. When I am pruning or teaching pruning - I often refer to "Elmer" and what he does or what would he do or how he has influenced my artistic and horticultural career. A man who grew up in farming country and as an adult shifted to ornamental gardening and Bonsai cultivation on his own property molded the essence of who I am and how I see plants and gardens. He and I have a mind meld about plants and how to treat them with care and respect. It was a pleasure to have him join me at a recent conifer pruning workshop at the Wakefield Estate.

Thanks to Lynne Damianos Photography for these lovely new pictures of a huge-scale project designed by our own Jina Magiera over 4 years ago. It's amazing to be invited back to see how a few years of growth really completes the designer's vision.

This is one of our favorite naturalized gardens in the city. This beautiful yard is a tribute to balance - years of dedication and care from the owners who were also happy to just let nature take its course. In a couple weeks, the blue squill will be dotted with clusters of yellow and white daffodils. Simply stunning.

Enjoying some time off and experiencing the celebrations of Lunar New Year in Thailand. The preparations have been incredible to see. This traffic island outside old city center of Chiang Mai was decorated with thousands petunias cascading from these urns in all directions. What a crew - they managed this all in one day! Happy Lunar New Year to all who are celebrating!
