McCourt Construction

McCourt Construction Building America Since 1893 McCourt Construction is a large, diversified General Contractor headquartered in Boston, MA.

Since our founding in 1893, we have focused on building the Northeast’s most complex civil projects. McCourt is organized into a Heavy Civil Division focused on improving our nation’s infrastructure and an Energy Division dedicated to expanding America’s electric, gas, and steam networks. Fifth-generation McCourt brothers lead McCourt Construction, and with over 130 years of managing construction

projects, we have built a book of business unmatched in the Northeast. We pride ourselves on working for New England’s most demanding clients, ranging from the Federal Government to state transportation agencies, gas & electric utilities, and the world’s most elite universities and hospitals. Dedicated to building the Northeast, our team comprises hundreds of skilled craft employees backed by 90+ salaried staff. Among them are committed and talented construction professionals, engineers, surveyors, and our in-house Safety Department. Our fleet of equipment, valued at tens of millions of dollars and comprised of fully-owned machinery, is diligently maintained by our mechanics stationed at our Boston maintenance facility. For a second consecutive year, the Boston Business Journal has recognized McCourt Construction as one of the 2025 Best Places to Work in Massachusetts. We are excited to continue to develop our workforce and build on our expertise to uphold our reputation as New England’s premier heavy civil contractor.

In 2013, a crew of McCourt’s finest constructed the plaza for the Team Hoyt Statue, titled “Yes You Can!”, located steps from the Boston Marathon starting line. The statue honors Dick and Rick Hoyt, who participated in the Boston Marathon 32 times, paving the way for athletes with disabilities. Team Hoyt is a legendary organization, and we were honored to be part of honoring their legacy.

Good luck to all Boston Marathon participants today! 💙💛

Safety starts with us. Each winter, McCourt Construction’s Safety Department hosts our Annual Safety Training. Split into two sessions, the safety team curated an engaging, hands-on safety training for us. Any chance we get to come together to sharpen our skills and refine our expertise for operations across our company and in the field is valuable.

McCourt’s Safety Director, Scott Gorman; Safety Manager, Josh P***n; and Safety Representatives, Randy Zankel and Lou Granger, did just that this year and even took it up a notch. Through problem-solving, real-world scenarios, and team-building activities, it’s an opportunity to learn, listen, and engage to strengthen our team. Whether building a house based on four different sets of instructions, recreating a trench box, practicing CPR, or learning a brand-new skill, our Safety Team found a relatable and approachable lesson in each activity.

McCourt welcomed several industry professionals to speak on best practices and the industry. Miranda Jones, Chris Morog, and Bob Ferguson covered Contracts and Prevailing Wage. Scott Paul and Elizabeth McQuaide joined us from Corrtech and gave a great presentation. Additionally, we enjoyed featured training presentations from our McCourt team members over the past few weeks. They led valuable discussions on technology, software, safety, industry advancements, and other topics integral to success across McCourt Construction.

Thank you to our guest speakers for taking the time to speak with us. To every McCourt team member who committed their time and effort to put on several successful training sessions in recent weeks, thank you. And, thank you to each member of our Safety Department for their dedication and hard work in organizing two great sessions of our Annual Safety Training.

We value this opportunity to learn together and are thankful for the amazing individuals who make it all happen. We are stronger together.

We are ready for takeoff. Congratulations to everyone involved in the triumphant re-opening of Runway 9-27 for Massachusetts Port Authority. Work on Phase 1 to install an Engineered Material Arresting System (EMAS) at the end of Runway 27 commenced on September 2nd and included a 75-day closure and a 24/7 work schedule. EMAS is a critical safety system at Boston Logan and other airports near water or ground elevation changes. This system is made of lightweight, collapsible material designed to stop a plane that has overshot the runway. Due to the terrain around the airport, this system is critical.

As of November 14th, the runway is now reopened. McCourt has an undeniably dedicated crew, and we thank Massport and our project partners, Jacobs Solutions Inc. and JF White Contracting, for their hard work and passion throughout Phase 1. Looking forward to getting back out there for Phase 2 in 2026.

Work is well underway on Runway 9-27 at Boston Logan International Airport. Massachusetts Port Authority has assigned us, along with the excellent teams of Jacobs Solutions Inc. and JF White Contracting, to improve runway safety by installing an Engineered Material Arresting System (EMAS) at the end of the runway. To support the construction, Runway 9-27 is in its first of two 75-day closures.

EMAS is a critical safety system at Boston Logan and other airports near water or ground elevation changes. This system is made of lightweight, collapsible material designed to stop a plane that has overshot the runway. Due to the terrain around the airport, this system is especially important.

We look forward to completing part 1 of 2 of this transformative project for Massport, the City of Boston, and everyone traveling to and from our city.
