✅Pro Tip Tuesday: Dinning Chandelier Lights

Stop guessing on dining room light fixture sizing!

This Weeks Pro Tip:

📏 The Guideline: Pick a chandelier or pendant that is 1/2 to 2/3 the total width of your dining table.

💡 Visual Scale: Keeps the fixture proportionate to your furniture and grounds the surrounding room layout.

📐 Height Check: Hang the bottom of the fixture 30–36 inches above the tabletop surface.

A kitchen can look perfectly fine in photos and still be frustrating every single day. Maybe the dishwasher opens into the main work zone. Maybe the trash is nowhere near food prep. Maybe the storage looks generous, but the things you use most are always in the wrong place.

That is why we start kitchen design with function. We look at how people cook, clean, unload groceries, gather, and move through the room. Once the layout supports real life, the finishes can make it beautiful.

What is the most frustrating part of your current kitchen layout?

Living along the Front Range comes with incredible mountain views, and some very unique wear and tear on our homes! 🏔️🏠

We put together an honest, practical breakdown on the blog: Top 5 Most Frequent Repairs That We Encounter in the Front Range.

From radical temperature swings to expansive soil, we share the most common issues we spot during consultations and how to catch them before they turn into major structural headaches.

•Expansive Soil & Foundation Stress: How clay soils shift during wet-dry cycles and affect basement slabs.

•Freeze-Thaw Exterior Damage: Catching masonry, siding, and seal failures caused by rapid winter warm-ups.

•Drywall & Framing Settlement: Spotting seasonal movement cracks versus true structural issues.

•Deck & Outdoor Structural Wear: Weather-proofing framing exposed to intense high-altitude UV rays.

•Plumbing & Freeze Exposure: Protecting hose bibs and uninsulated exterior wall pipes before winter hits.

How cool is this sample??

We’re working through the final design decisions for an upcoming kitchen remodel, and during a recent call the homeowner mentioned wanting something unique and eye-catching for their vent hood cover.

I basically said, “Hold my tape measure. I know just the thing.” 😂

What I’m holding here is actually a piece of wood that’s been finished to look and feel like patinated brass.

This is one of my favorite parts of higher-end remodeling. We get to go beyond the standard options, bring in some really fun materials and finishes, and create details that make the space feel completely unique to the homeowner.

Can’t wait to see this one come together.

Looking for something a little different in your next remodel?

Let’s have a conversation and explore some options that make the space feel uniquely yours.

Colorado weather doesn't mess around! Between freeze-thaw cycles, intense high-altitude UV rays, and sudden summer hail, picking the right exterior materials is everything.

We put together a practical guide on the blog: Best Materials for Outdoor Living Areas in Colorado's Climate.

We break down which decking, hardscaping, and kitchen materials hold up best against Front Range weather so your outdoor living investment stays beautiful for decades.

🌷Composite Decking vs. Real Wood: Choosing fade-resistant, low-maintenance boards over high-upkeep natural timber.

☀️Freeze-Thaw Pavers & Stone: Selecting non-porous hardscape materials that won't crack during freeze-thaw cycles.

🍁Outdoor Kitchen Surfaces: Opting for UV-stable countertops like non-porous granite or outdoor-rated quartz.

Can professionally painted cabinets be as durable as a factory finish?

Sometimes. But “painted” is not one single process.

A cabinet painted on site with ordinary wall paint is very different from a finish that is properly prepared, sprayed, and cured by a cabinet specialist. Factory finishes benefit from a controlled production environment, but the exact coating, process, and warranty can still vary by manufacturer.

Before comparing the labels, ask about the complete finishing system:

• How will the surface be prepared?
• Which coating system will be used?
• Where and how will the finish cure?
• How should it be cleaned and maintained?
• What does the written warranty cover?

The better question is not simply “factory-finished or professionally painted?” It is whether the preparation, coating, curing process, maintenance requirements, and warranty are appropriate for your kitchen.

Save this for when you start comparing cabinet options for your remodel.

✅Pro Tip Tuesday: Laundry Room Clearance

There’s nothing worse than squeezing into a tight laundry room and bumping your knees into the wall every time you transfer a load!

📏The Golden Rule: Leave roughly 48 inches of open floor space in front of front-loading washers and dryers.

🧺Why It Matters: Front-loading doors swing outward, having a full 4 feet of clearance allows you to comfortably crouch, open appliance doors fully, and set down a laundry basket without blocking your walkway.

💡Pro Tip: If space is extra tight, consider pedestal risers or side-by-side folding counters above top-loaders to maximize functional room ergonomics!

A homeowner recently asked us whether Shaker cabinets would make their high-end kitchen look cheap.

The honest answer is no.

“Shaker” describes the style of the cabinet door. It does not tell you how the cabinet was built, how durable the finish will be, how well it fits the room, or what kind of service comes with it.

You can buy Shaker cabinets from a big-box store, or you can have Shaker cabinets custom-built for your home. Both will hold your groceries, but that does not make them the same product.

The difference usually shows up in the construction, finish, hardware, customization, installation, and support you receive when something needs attention.

That does not mean the most expensive cabinet is automatically the right choice. It means you should understand what is included, and what may have changed, before choosing one quote over another.

A simple cabinet style can still create a beautiful, high-end kitchen. The quality comes from everything behind the door, the details surrounding it, and the team responsible for putting it all together.

Save this post for the next time you’re comparing cabinet options.
