In case you missed it, Colorado's new energy code is officially in effect.

Back in September 2025, the Colorado Energy Office published the state's new Model Low Energy and Carbon Code — and as of July 1, 2026, it's now the statewide minimum standard. Every city and county has to adopt it (or something even stricter) the next time they update their building codes.

Here's the good news for our local clients: Boulder has been ahead of this curve for years. Our approach to insulation, air sealing, and high-performance systems already reflects what the rest of the state is only now catching up to. If you're planning a custom build, it's a good reminder that building thoughtfully — not just to code, but ahead of it — pays off for decades.
