We always get a lot of questions on the metals roofs, so here are some of the most common MYTHS about metal roofing
1. Metal Roofs are too noisy.
This may have been the case many years ago, but today the panels are applied upon decking or existing shingles rather than just to the framing.
2. Metal Roof rusting.
The only way your metal roof will rust today is if you choose a finish like Weathering Steel. The paints are advanced to provide a antirusting protection. The panels themselves actually come with a 40 year manufacturing warranty.
3. A Metal Roof is too heavy for my home.
Metal roofs are actually a more lightweight option for roofing than materials like slate and clay. Aluminum and steel roofs do not require a pre-installation structural assessment, where those other materials do.
4.Metal Roofs will increase my AC bill.
This preconceived notion comes from the idea, that metal roofs will get extremely hot. The truth is quite the opposite. Metal roofing will actually help lower your energy bills because they have energy efficient qualities. The paint systems on metal roof today actually have reflective qualities, so they won’t absorb the sun’s UV rays. Homeowners who install metal roofs can expect to save up to 25% on their annual heating and cooling costs.
5. The screws on my metal roof are prime spots for leaking.
Every screw is drilled down over a neoprene washer, which acts as an excellent sealant all by itself. Neoprene has a low rate of oxidation and is resistant to sun, weather, ozone, and aging. The water that reaches your screws, will be stopped in its tracks from getting any further.
6. Metal Roofs cost way more than a shingle roof.
Our company personally is able to put on a metal roof within a couple hundred dollars difference of a shingle, when comparing the time frame of how long they last, the answer is almost written for you!
7. Metal roofs are more prone to lightening strikes.
While metal conducts electricity, electricity is not drawn to it. Since a metal roof is non-combustible, it is actually safer than some other roof types.
Hopefully this has helped someone out on their questions or even someone they may knows questions! Thank you and have a great day! 👍🏼
