You knew exactly which track you wanted. The rest of the album? That was a gamble. There was something special about walking into Virgin, HMV, Our Price or your local record shop and heading straight to the new releases wall. You’d spend your hard-earned pocket money on a CD because of one song you’d heard on the radio, MTV, Top of the Pops or from a friend. Then you’d rush home, skip straight to Track 3, Track 7 or wherever your favourite song was hiding. Sometimes you discovered a brilliant album. Sometimes you listened to that one song 500 times and ignored the other 11 completely. Streaming gives us every song ever recorded in seconds, but it never quite recreated the excitement of holding that CD case, reading the booklet and hoping the rest of the album was worth the money. What was the one CD you bought for a single song?
