Most people think construction safety involves job site workers - things like hard hats, safety glasses, and barriers around fall hazards.

What often goes unnoticed is how much time and effort we put into isolating our work from the public. From hospitals, airports, schools, and other busy locations, we install adequate barriers to prevent accident risk to those using the space around our construction zones. Temporary walls, fencing, and wayfinding signage are all critical parts of our safety program.

We held a party last night in celebration of one of our Big Sky market leaders going on to their next adventure. As a parting gift for his years of contributions, we had SCS Wraps in Bozeman design a custom YETI cooler wrap using a topographic map of Big Sky.

The cooler may have been the highlight of the party over the food, drinks, and conversation - which says a lot.

On Wednesday, our Martel team had the privilege of volunteering at the Montana Contractors’ Association’s Build Montana event in Kalispell!

We spent the afternoon teaching and cheering on talented high school students as they competed in carpentry, road building, hole digging, rock piling, and a challenging obstacle course for driving a Bobcat . The energy, focus, and skills on display were impressive.

It’s inspiring to see young people seriously considering careers in construction — not just as a job, but as a real path to make a great living, support a family, and enjoy everything the Big Sky State has to offer.

Martel is revamping our hand and glove safety policies. Jake Agustyn, HexArmor Sales Manager, put on a demonstration regarding different types of glove use, cut levels and impact ratings of the gloves we provide our work crews. The demonstration included a competition between two Martel carpenters and who could lace their boots the fastest with only using one hand! Eli Ponce was the winner of the challenge and received a free pair of HexArmor Composite toed work boots for his efforts! Two other demonstrations included a drop test onto 3D printed finger bones to show how little force it takes to break a finger, and using different cutting tools to show the different types of cut levels and how they differ from other gloves we provide.

After a mild but still long winter, we’re fired up and geared up for another season of work around our incredible state. The snow is melting and warmer weather is calling!

At every job site, protecting Montana’s environment is an important part of what we do. We follow strict erosion control practices, stormwater protection standards, and wildlife-friendly protocols so these crystal-clear lakes and surrounding habitats stay as beautiful as ever for future generations.

We also take every precaution to keep everyone safe around our work zones. Clear signage, barriers, and constant communication help ensure everyone can still enjoy Montana’s outdoors while we get the job done responsibly.

Martel is proud to announce the completion of a student built home in Kalispell. Martel is honored to have been selected as a partner of Kalispell Public Schools for this project.

We’re thrilled to support local students as they gain real-world experience in the trades — framing, plumbing, electrical, finishing, and everything it takes to build a home from the ground up.

We love seeing young women and men diving into these hands-on skills that prepare them for successful, rewarding careers. The trades offer incredible opportunities, excellent pay, and a direct path to the workforce — no lengthy (or expensive) post-secondary degree required.

Big congratulations to the students, teachers, and everyone involved. Can’t wait to watch you build something amazing!

Big progress at Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport!

We are making sure BZN, a $2.2B contributor to Southwest Montana’s economy, has what it needs to keep growing! Thanks to a much easier winter, we’ve stayed on schedule and made serious headway on the west end of the BZN 2030 expansion project. All sides of the original terminal building Martel built in the late 1970’s are torn apart and expanding with a larger footprint.

Thank you for your patience as we work to deliver a stronger, more efficient airport for our region.

Nothing says “hello spring” like firing up the grill with the whole team! We kicked off the season with a fantastic lunch BBQ at our Bozeman office — good food, great company, and even better vibes as we welcomed our newest office members.

Even our Chief Wellness Officer, Wayne, got in on the action… mostly just positioning himself for any fallen scraps 😄

Huge thanks to our Director of Project Development, Max Troutman, for hosting and grilling up a storm!
