It's starting to feel like fall but there's still plenty of time to enjoy a few late season blooms! Yarrow, sedum, echinacea, asters, hydrangeas, and more are putting on a great show as this summer wraps up. Some of our hardy native varieties will continue to bloom in cooler temperatures even after irrigation systems have been shut down!

Raised planters are a great way to add interest to your outdoor living space. It's important to be intentional with your irrigation installation to allow for adequate soil saturation while not over watering to the point of leaky planters.

So many perennials work great for cut flowers! Whether you are brightening your bedroom or bringing a gift to a friend, flowers from your own garden give a special touch.

Pictured flowers in order -- Prairie Cone Flower, Lupine, Globe Flower, Hydrangea, Double Columbine, Dianthus, and a lovely Rose but don't worry there are plenty more that work well in our growing zone!

In spite of a short growing season and hungry ungulates, this Big Sky landscape is starting to fill in. Bluestone walkways and Flatwillow stair treads help connect the more structured spaces to the native surroundings.

Ever wonder what happened to the rope or wire that got left around a tree after it's been grown over?!

After disappearing, this rope continued to girdle the tree from beneath the bark, this prevented normal growth, prevented the exchange of nutrients and water flowing freely from roots to the canopy, and created a weak point in the trunk 😱 You can see the bulging area where the tree tried to bypass this strangulation but ultimately this poor aspen broke at the weakest point in an east wind.

Don't forget to adjust the hanger for the bird feeder and remove the tree stakes when appropriate!
