It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of OSM's founder, Jonathan L Foote, who passed away peacefully Friday evening at his ranch in Livingston, Montana.
Jon founded OSM in 1987 and created the foundation of the company we are proud to be part of today. While he had been retired for several years (or at least had finally started admitting that he was retired), he remained deeply passionate about architecture, craftsmanship, the Mountain West, and the work and relationships that grew out of OSM over the decades.
Some of you knew Jon personally and worked alongside him for many years. Others may only know his name and the role he played in the early history of the company. Regardless, his influence on OSM is significant and lasting. The values around quality, design, attention to detail, stewardship, and enduring work that continue to shape this company today trace directly back to Jon and the culture he established.
Jon was widely respected not only as an architect, but as someone who helped shape a distinctly Western architectural language rooted in craftsmanship, authenticity, and a strong sense of place. His work and legacy extended far beyond OSM and will leave a lasting impact across the region.
Our thoughts are with Jon’s family and all who knew him closely. We will miss him greatly.
As Jon so often said:
“Onwards and upwards, together we’ll hit the wall running.”
