High-End Home Builders & Master Craftsman Dovetail Construction is the realization of a childhood dream among two lifelong friends.
(1)

Since Kevin and Tim were 5 years old, the two things they always wanted to do was to live in the mountains and to build. Both obtained engineering and construction management degrees and for many years followed their own paths working on major construction sites (Kevin in NYC and Tim in Boston, Hawaii,Alaska, and Seattle). Kevin eventually escaped from NY and moved to Montana. When the two lads would occasionally meet up and have an adult beverage (or two), talk would always return to their childhood dream and plans would once again be hatched late into the night. Well, one day that plan survived the morning after and Tim made a major move to The Last Best Place where Dovetail Construction was born. Dovetail Construction could best be described as a family business (people who know them will know what this means) that takes advantage of a wide range of construction experiences. Over the years they learned many things but the two most important things they learned (even before they entered Kindergarten) were to: Do exactly what you say you're going to do and if you do something, do it right. It seems simple because it is. Dovetail Construction, "where quality joins integrity."

Situated along the banks of the Yellowstone River, this Montana residence reflects a thoughtful connection to its natural surroundings.

The homeowners envisioned a home that carried the character of the river throughout its design. From the patterned siding to steel railings that mimic the waves and currents of the water, even the exterior details reflect that vision.

Working closely with the homeowners and our trade partners, our team helped bring that vision to life, creating a home where every detail has a purpose.

This past weekend, Dovetail was proud to sponsor the stage at The Attic during the Livingston Songwriter Festival, supporting a weekend with Nashville Legends and Troubadour Song Writers. Hearing the back stories of their songs and then to have them perform in downtown Livingston is a real treat for our Dovetail fans and friends. We’re grateful to support great music, talented songwriters and learn about the art of songwriting from the best in the business!

We just wrapped the landscaping on one of our projects in Spanish Peaks, and this one is looking pretty incredible. Getting close to the finish line!

How many builders get to tailgate with clients this fun? Great company, a Montana State Football game, and a win to top it all off. Go Cats!

From a once-overlooked outbuilding to a space made for entertaining.

A few years after completing the original residence, Dovetail returned to reimagine the existing “Gravel Bar” into a grown-ups’ playhouse, complete with window walls that open to the mountain views, a custom bar, outdoor patio and built-in pizza oven.

Finishes inside and out echo the original home, making the space feel like it’s been part of the property from day one.

Built in layers.

A look at the work underway on one of our current builds – a party barn in the making, because everyone hope for one someday.

Downstream Dreams.

Featured in the September/October issue of Mountain Living, the Madison River Valley retreat was shaped around the homeowners’ connection to the landscape — seeing the water, hearing the water and taking in the mountain views.

This connection to the creek carries into the details, too—from the home’s orientation along the bluff to fly-fishing features incorporated into the entry.

As our summer internship comes to a close, we’re reminded how much can be gained in just a few short months.

This summer, we were happy to welcome Stuart to Dovetail as a Project Engineer Intern. From gaining hands-on experience and a better understanding of the industry to learning from the people around him and building relationships along the way, Stuart made the most of his time with our team.

We’re grateful to have been part of his experience and even happier to hear it was a rewarding one.

Thanks for a great summer, Stuart!
