School’s back in session — did your student head off to campus with only one key to their vehicle?

One key means one lost key, one broken key, or one locked-out car away from an expensive emergency. A spare key costs a fraction of what an after-hours lockout or dealership replacement runs, and it means your student isn’t stranded waiting on help between classes.

Dave’s Lock & Key can cut and program a spare key for most vehicle makes and models — fast, affordable, and done at our store or in the campus parking lot.

🔑 Dave’s Wednesday Keys to Security:

When pivot hinges wear out, the door sags, gaps open up around the latch side, and the deadbolt or panic hardware stops fully engaging. A door that doesn’t sit flush and lock tight is a door that’s easier to force open.

A continuous hinge fixes this at the source. Running the full height of the door instead of two or three wear points, it spreads the door’s weight evenly, eliminates sagging, keeps the latch and strike properly aligned, and closes off the gap intruders use to pry a door off its hinges. It also holds up to far more open-close cycles than pivot hardware, so it’s a fix you won’t be revisiting next year.

Dave’s Lock & Key can inspect your storefront door hardware and recommend a continuous hinge retrofit where it’s needed — keeping your entry secure, code-conscious, and operating smoothly.

🔑 **Dave’s Wednesday Keys to Security:**
Commercial door hardware works hard every day.

From storefront doors and panic bars to closers, hinges, levers, and locks, regular use can cause parts to loosen, wear out, or fall out of adjustment over time.

Preventative maintenance helps catch small problems before they become costly repairs, safety concerns, or security issues. A door that doesn’t close properly, latch securely, or open smoothly can put your business, employees, and customers at risk.

Dave’s Lock & Key can inspect, adjust, repair, and maintain commercial door hardware to help keep your property secure, code-conscious, and operating smoothly.

Having trouble with multipoint door hardware?

If your door handle is hard to lift, the lock won’t engage smoothly, the door has to be pushed or pulled just right to lock, or the handles sag and don’t spring back like they used to, don’t force it.

Multipoint locks secure your door in several places, which helps with security and weather sealing. But when the door settles, the strikes get out of alignment, or internal parts start to wear, forcing the lock can cause more damage.

Dave’s Lock & Key can inspect, adjust, repair, or replace multipoint door hardware to help get your door locking smoothly and securely again.

Physical Security Still Matters in a Digital World

Cameras, alarms, and access control systems get a lot of attention—but none of it matters if the physical barriers protecting your business are weak. Doors, locks, and hardware are still the first line of defense.
A commercial-grade lock on a hollow door, a flimsy strike plate, or an unsecured side entrance can undo even the best security technology. Physical security has to be solid before anything else can back it up.

✅ Install commercial-grade deadbolts on exterior doors
✅ Reinforce door frames and strike plates against forced entry
✅ Don’t overlook side doors, loading docks, and emergency exits
✅ Use high-security cylinders that resist picking and bumping
✅ Schedule a locksmith walkthrough to spot weak points

At Dave’s Lock & Key, we help business owners across Southwest Montana shore up the physical security that everything else depends on.
Technology is only as strong as the door it’s protecting.

Key Control Isn’t Just for Big Businesses

Uncontrolled keys are one of the most overlooked security gaps out there. Every unmanaged copy is a door you can no longer fully account for—whether it’s a small office, a rental property, or a busy household.
A restricted key system puts a stop to that by keeping every key logged, authorized, and traceable back to you.
✅ Track exactly how many keys exist and who holds them
✅ Require sign-off before any new key is cut
✅ Rekey with confidence when a key isn’t returned
✅ Reduce liability for landlords and business owners
✅ Works for a single door or an entire building

At Dave’s Lock & Key, we help homeowners and business owners across Southwest Montana put real key control in place—not just more keys floating around.
Fewer unknowns, better security.

Give (and Revoke) Access on Your Terms

Ever had to make a spare key for a dog walker, house cleaner, or visiting family member—then worried about getting it back? Keyless entry makes that a non-issue.
Most keyless locks let you create unique codes or digital keys for specific people, and remove them just as easily when you no longer need them active.
✅ Create temporary codes for guests or service providers
✅ Instantly revoke access—no key exchange required
✅ Set schedules so codes only work during certain hours
✅ Know exactly who’s coming and going with activity logs
✅ Perfect for rentals, vacation homes, or family staying over
At Dave’s Lock & Key, we help Southwest Montana homeowners set up keyless systems that put you in full control of who gets in.
Your home, your rules, down to the exact minute.

🔑 Dave’s Wednesday Keys to Security: Rekey vs. Replace—What’s Right for You?

Moved into a new place? Lost track of who has copies of your keys? You don’t always need brand-new locks—sometimes rekeying is all it takes.
Rekeying changes the internal pins so old keys no longer work, while keeping your existing hardware. Replacement makes sense when locks are damaged, outdated, or you want to upgrade security features altogether.
✅ Rekey after moving into a new home
✅ Rekey after a roommate or tenant moves out
✅ Replace locks that are worn, damaged, or outdated
✅ Replace if you want smart or high-security upgrades
✅ Ask a locksmith which option fits your situation and budget
At Dave’s Lock & Key, we help homeowners and businesses across Southwest Montana decide what makes sense—no upselling, just honest advice.
Not sure which one you need? That’s exactly what we’re here for.

This week’s tip: Don’t wait until your vehicle keys are lost to think about getting a spare.

Modern vehicle keys, remotes, and fobs can be more expensive and time-consuming to replace when there is no working key available. Having a spare made ahead of time can save you stress, time, and money.

If you only have one key for your vehicle, now is the time to make a backup before it goes missing.

A spare key is one of the simplest ways to be prepared for lost vehicle keys.
