I love it when a plan comes together! This kill plot is in the final steps of a 6 month process to design and install the ultimate late season kill plot.
Two varieties of soybeans were planted and protected back in June. One variety was a forage bean that has stayed green into October. The other variety was a pod producer. At this point I have a few green stalks still producing forage and a lot of pods hanging, waiting on cold weather.
Today the plot was overseeded with small grains, brassicas, and clover before the rain hit. These will germinate and will be ready for late season.
The key to this setup is a 4 acre food plot planted just a few yards away. That plot is coming up and ready to provide lots of green forage early. The small kill plot of standing beans, tucked into good cover will be the spot a mature buck will step into before dark, foraging on the bean pods and staging up to enter the bigger plot.
