I tell you what. I remember about 30- 35 years ago everyone was so happy that we had developed a tree that grew quickly and produced shade quickly. Well as we know , usually if you put something together quickly it turns out to be something wrong with it. Well, that tree would be the ' Bradford Pear'. I think in a 5 year span just about everybody in Rankin County had a 'Bradford Pear' .What we were not told was the problems we were gonna have with this tree. Well , first of all what got my attention was that it is a short lived tree. It says their life span is about 25 years. Have you seen a 25 year old 'Bradford Pear' Some of them are huge. That's just a mess. I would rather plant something that's gonna live longer. Also Bradford Pear' had a soft wood. .This comes from growing so fast. They also have many branches that need to be pruned off at a young age of the tree. It needs to be pruned so the branches can actually have some room to grow. This tree has a wonderful red color on the leaves in fall, but then when the blooms come stay away because they stink and cause sinus problems. So really there's not much I can say about the 'Bradford Pear' that is good. Other than you'll have something to do about 25 years down the road if you plant one.
