"A simple test can save you a lot of trouble. Dig a hole about a foot deep and fill it with water.

If the water drains away within an hour, your soil is probably fine. If it is still sitting there two or three hours later, you have a drainage problem that needs to be fixed before planting."

This fragrant Texas herb has been earning serious attention from homeowners who have replaced foundation mulch with it, and the results are exactly what you’d hope for.

This is why we add Espoma Organic Bio-Tone to every tree we install.

This is a root ball of an Indigo shrub I up potted at home. The gray material is mycorrhizae, a symbiotic fungi that attaches to roots as they grow. The Bio-Tone is inoculated with mychorizzae.

It helps increase the root surface area for efficient water uptake, and assists with mineral and vitamin uptake. Established groves have interconnected colonies that support the biome.

This is why clear cutting Yaupons in Post Oak stands will lead to rapid decline of the Oaks: the Yaupons are pioneer/nurse plants and, once removed, degrade the already delicate root systems of the Oaks.
