๐Ÿž Garden Pests vs. Beneficial Insects โ€“ What Should You Leave Alone? ๐ŸŒฑ

Not every bug in your garden is a problem. In fact, some of the insects you see are helping protect your plants naturally!

โœ… Ladybugs โ€“ These garden favorites feed on aphids, mites, and other plant-damaging pests.

โœ… Praying Mantises โ€“ Excellent hunters that help keep populations of unwanted insects in check.

โœ… Ground Beetles โ€“ Often found near mulch and garden beds, these beneficial insects feed on caterpillars, slugs, and other pests that can damage plants.

On the flip side, keep an eye out for pests like aphids, Japanese beetles, and cabbage worms, which can quickly damage flowers, vegetables, and shrubs.

Before reaching for a spray bottle, take a closer look. A healthy garden depends on the right balance of insectsโ€”and some of your best helpers may already be hard at work. ๐ŸŒผ๐Ÿž๐ŸŒฟ

๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ”ฅ Outdoor entertaining season is here!

Whether you're hosting a backyard BBQ, relaxing around the fire pit, hosting a graduation party, or simply enjoying dinner on the patio, nothing ruins the evening faster than mosquitoes, wasps, and other unwanted pests crashing the party.

A few simple tips can help make your outdoor space more enjoyable:

โœ… Eliminate standing water around the yard
โœ… Keep outdoor trash cans sealed
โœ… Trim back overgrown vegetation near gathering areas
โœ… Consider pest-deterrent plants like lavender, rosemary, or citronella
โœ… Stay ahead of mosquito populations before they peak

The best gatherings are the ones where your guests remember the food and companyโ€”not the bug bites.

Here's to enjoying more time outdoors this summer. โ˜€๏ธ

๐Ÿœ๐Ÿ Is It Just One Ant... Or the Start of a Bigger Problem?

This time of year, we start getting more calls for ants and wasps as colonies grow and become more active.

A few signs it may be more than a random pest sighting:

โ€ข Ants showing up day after day in the same area
โ€ข Trails of ants along foundations, patios, or kitchen counters
โ€ข Small piles of sawdust-like material near wood structures (often associated with carpenter ants)
โ€ข Wasps frequently flying to and from the same spot
โ€ข Nests forming under eaves, decks, railings, or outdoor furniture
โ€ข Increased wasp activity around outdoor gathering areas

The good news? Most pest problems are much easier to manage when caught early.

If you've noticed increased ant or wasp activity around your home, now is a great time to address it before colonies and nests continue to expand throughout the summer.

๐Ÿพ Fleas & Ticks: What Every Pet Owner Should Watch For

As the weather warms up, flea and tick activity ramps up across New England. While these pests are small, they can create big problems for both pets and people.

Keep an eye out for:
โœ” Excessive scratching or biting at the skin
โœ” Red, irritated areas or hair loss
โœ” Small black specks (flea dirt) in your pet's coat
โœ” Ticks attached around the ears, neck, armpits, or between the toes
โœ” Increased lethargy or signs of discomfort

After walks, hikes, or time spent in the yard, take a few minutes to check your pets thoroughly. Early detection can help prevent flea infestations and reduce the risk of tick-borne illnesses.

A quick inspection today can save a lot of headaches later this season. Call our team to get your backyard on a preventative Tick and Mosquito program!

๐ŸฆŸ Mosquito activity is definitely picking up across New Hampshire and Massachusetts after the recent stretch of rain and warmer evenings.

โš ๏ธ Keep in mind: mosquitoes donโ€™t need much water to breed. Clogged gutters, flower pots, kidsโ€™ toys, tarps, and even small puddles can quickly become breeding spots this time of year.

A few easy ways to help reduce activity around your yard:
โ€ข Dump standing water regularly
โ€ข Keep gutters flowing properly
โ€ข Trim back overgrown shrubs and shaded areas
โ€ข Change birdbath water often

Mosquitoes are most active around dawn and dusk, so thatโ€™s when bites tend to ramp up.

Enjoy the weather โ€” just donโ€™t forget the bug spray if youโ€™re outside in the evenings. ๐ŸฆŸ
