Over the years we have received many unique tips/holiday bonuses around this time of year from our clients, and this year is no exception. Just received a nearly 8 pound baked ham to our doorstep. Honored to have clients who think of us even after our services are rendered, and grateful to be able to serve our community with our school set.

As a small construction company we often offer PSAs on common household issue and finding a quality contractor. Today, we get the opportunity to offer a broader PSA-driving safety. A while ago we had a customer ask us to replace part of a split rail fence at her driveway head that had been damage by a care accident (she lives on a slight curve in an otherwise straight road. Two mornings ago a pre-dawn high speed accident took out not only her fence again, but snapped the power pole next to it in three parts, cutting power for the next five hours as crews worked to replace the pole. Surprisingly, the only rail damage way one rails end, with the corner post being ripped in half but still standing. We have no idea the speed involved to accomplish this (other than unsafely high), but we do know that the driver miraclulously survived.

The overall PSA here- SLOW DOWN AND PAY ATTENTION. The amount of accidents occurring in our community, including personally involving us, are only going up, and not everyone is walking away from them, or even surviving them. Don’t be a statistic, and don’t leave your family/friends in a situation of loss, financial or life wise.

A few months ago we saw a post with a sadly familiar story. The client had hired someone to do some work at her house, and after doing shotty work for an exorbitant amount of money they want AWOL. She was reaching out to the community to see if anyone could help rectify the situations as they were allowing further damage to be done. When we arrived, we discovered a deck that was attached to the house with basic everyday screws rather than structural screws, and missing siding that was allowing water to enter underneath and caused damage to the house, along with other things not photographed. We were able to replace with structural screws and add braces and replace the missing siding, allowing the deck to be more stable, less likely to collapse and cause serious injury/damage. We are coming across more and more of these stories every day, and as contractors we highly encourage everyone to do their due diligence when vetting companies to do work on your properties. NEVER be afraid to ask for references/portfolio of previous projects and licensing information, get multiple quotes and, if necessary, run their names through the appropriate governmental agencies/websites in Delaware to see if anything suspicious comes up. i’ll it should always be taken with a grain of salt, also run their names through local groups on Facebook and see if anyone else has used them previously, and if they were satisfied with the work. With so many companies popping up, and even those around for years, you can never be too careful.

The pond we have previously maintained for a customer developed a hole after the winter snow storms. They didn’t want their fish and frogs to perish, so we made a temporary solution and remodeled the new pond to be more sustainable and damage protected. Still a bit of the remaining framework to remove but the fishies are finally home!
