This week we took a break from work in Delaware to volunteer our time with International Disaster Emergency Service, or IDES, to help rebuild houses lost to Hurricane Helene in Erwin and Mountain City, Tennessee. From setting tubs to installing insulation, and a deck as well, we and many other team members worked together to help people get back what was taken by the raging river nearby as well as the hurricane itself.

As a small construction company we often offer PSAs on common household issue and finding a quality contractor. Today, we get the opportunity to offer a broader PSA-driving safety. A while ago we had a customer ask us to replace part of a split rail fence at her driveway head that had been damage by a care accident (she lives on a slight curve in an otherwise straight road. Two mornings ago a pre-dawn high speed accident took out not only her fence again, but snapped the power pole next to it in three parts, cutting power for the next five hours as crews worked to replace the pole. Surprisingly, the only rail damage way one rails end, with the corner post being ripped in half but still standing. We have no idea the speed involved to accomplish this (other than unsafely high), but we do know that the driver miraclulously survived.

The overall PSA here- SLOW DOWN AND PAY ATTENTION. The amount of accidents occurring in our community, including personally involving us, are only going up, and not everyone is walking away from them, or even surviving them. Don’t be a statistic, and don’t leave your family/friends in a situation of loss, financial or life wise.
