Removing snow from a flat roof is difficult and very dangerous. Not only that but there is little chance of doing it without causing a lot of damage to the roof.
We recommend being certain that the underlying structure of your roof is strong, and if there is any doubt about this to have it inspected. Best practice of course would be to be certain of this before the snow begins to fly, since there is little to nothing that can be done to remedy this until the snow clears.
The next week will be bringing another snowstorm, followed by rain later next week. Roofs in Massachusetts will become heavily laden with snow and ice. Again, if there is any question as to the integrity of your flat roof, have it inspected right away.
Several buildings collapsed around the state Tuesday morning, their roofs caving under the weight of more than two feet of snow that have accumulated through three major storms in recent weeks.
