Starting January 1, 2027, new gas water heaters can no longer be purchased or installed in the 9 Bay Area counties.

Here is what you need to know:
✅ No panic: Your current working gas water heater is safe—no one is forcing you to replace it today.
✅ The rule: When your gas heater breaks after Jan 1, 2027, it must be replaced with an electric heat pump.
✅ Stoves are safe: Gas stoves and cooktops are NOT affected by this rule.

1️⃣ Upgrade early: Beat the 2027 rush and take advantage of thousands in available tax credits and local rebates.
