Here’s a closer look at the display book designed for Cass District Library’s Edwardsburg Branch. I wanted to use native woods and settled on black walnut and white oak. The grain pattern gave me the idea to cut it in a way that resembles words on a page. I’ve always loved the tones of cedar and thought maybe I could use it somehow to make a bookmark. I ended up steam bending and shaping a strip to mimic a ribbon. I was planning on only making the book but thought it needed something to make it stand out more and just kind of winged it from there. Overall, it was a rewarding project and very cool that it gets to live in such a beautiful space.

My son and I had the pleasure of attending the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Edwardsburg Branch of Cass District Library today. What an incredible space! Wyatt has officially dubbed it “the coolest library ever” which is HIGH praise coming from a bookworm like him. I love unique projects and it was an honor to create this display piece for the library.

We’ve had lots of people ask about our LEGO set up, so I thought I’d share it here. We used scrap wood to build the brick shelves that also function as k***s for doors that swing open for more internal shelving. After storing pieces in a rolling cart for years, we recently switched to larger slide out bins that nest nicely under the shelves. A 3D printed mini fig wall and LED lights add fun finishing touches 💫

What goes into making a door? A good design, some hardware, and a lot of clamps. After finishing the framing, drywall, mud, trim, and flooring for this new home gym - the fun could really begin.
