⚡️ Fun Fact Friday: Who’s Who in the Electrical Trade? ⚡️
Ever wondered about the different roles on an electrical job? Let’s clear it up! 💡 Here in Oklahoma, there are three main levels in the electrical trade — each with a unique role and set of qualifications:
🔧 Apprentice Electrician
These are individuals learning the trade under the supervision of licensed journeymen or contractors. Apprentices work on real job sites while attending classes to gain the knowledge and experience needed to move up. In Oklahoma, apprentices must register with the Construction Industries Board (CIB).
🧰 Journeyman Electrician
Journeymen are fully trained and licensed to work independently on electrical systems. They’ve completed the required hours of supervised work and passed the state journeyman exam. In Oklahoma, that means at least 4,000 hours of on-the-job training! However, they are required to work under a licensed electrical contractor — they cannot pull permits or run jobs independently.
🏗️ Electrical Contractor
Contractors are licensed professionals who can pull permits, run their own businesses, and oversee electrical projects and teams. In Oklahoma, contractors must carry liability insurance and pass a more advanced exam that includes business and law knowledge.

We’re excited to introduce Ashley, who works part-time in the office here at Hot Shot Electric! Ashley is John’s youngest daughter and recently tied the knot in September—congrats, Ashley!

When she’s not helping keep things running smoothly at the office, Ashley stays busy as a part-time nanny to two beautiful girls. She has a love for the outdoors and a passion for photography. She enjoys spending time with her three dogs and her husband out on his family’s farm. We’re lucky to have Ashley as part of our team!

⚡️ Almost 𝟑𝟎 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 ago, my amazing husband launched this company — just 𝟑 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐬 before we welcomed our first child! It’s been an incredible journey watching this business grow from the ground up, and I feel so blessed to support him every step of the way. This is Bob one of our journeymen. He has been with Hot Shot for 1 1/2 years. When he isn't working he enjoys time with his family. He enjoys fishing and content creation. He has been an electrician for 15 years. Bob is a hard worker, he is our estimate guy, he is good at trouble shooting, he enjoys the challenging nature of the work.
