This beautiful Lilac bush is our favorite Springtime bloomer!! Beautiful fragrant blooms full of hope and love!!!
Make sure you plant yours in full sun or they won't bloom and in a slightly alkaline and moist but well drained soil for best results.
Sometimes it really is the simple things in life that will sustain us....Love One Another!!!

Earlier this week Steve and the guys completed a very special project for Saint Simeon's Senior Community in Tulsa.

Three and half years ago Steve gathered 9 acorns from a mother tree in the gazebo courtyard area. Now this courtyard tree is a very special tree as it was an original offspring/baby tree from the original Council Oak Tree that is located in a Historic Preservation Zone at 18th Street and Cheyenne Ave near the Arkansas River and downtown Tulsa.

The Creek Council Oak Tree is listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places and is a designated landmark as it represents the founding of the modern city of Tulsa but the origination of this wonderful Post Oak tree dates back to 1836 when the Creek Nation/ Lochapokas chose an oak tree on top of a hill that overlooked the Arkansas River as the site of their council ground. These grounds were also a gathering place for tribal ceremonies, feasts, and games. They named their village nearby talasi or "Old Town". This tree was already a mature tree when they arrived so the exact age is not known. There is also a "Trail of Tears" monument there as well as a sculpture named Morning Prayer.

The 9 acorns that he gathered from Saint Simeon's mother tree were started in 4" flower pots. Eventually he transplanted them to 1 gallon pots. Then they grew to be transplanted to 3 gallon pots and then to 5 gallon pots and FINALLY they were ready to be transplanted to 15 gallon pots. They were watered daily for over 3 years and fertilized 3 times per year. In other words, great care was given to them to assure they would make it to their forever homes!!!

I'm very happy and proud to present to you the 6 surviving Post Oak trees that have origins to the Council Oak tree!!! May they bring enjoyment and shade for all the residents of this wonderful community.

Freeze warning for Northeast Oklahoma from 1am, Wed April 4th until 10am, Wed April 4th. This is why we wait until AFTER April 15th to plant any annuals. If you fertilized your Pansies when you planted them in October and watered them periodically throughout the winter months then they are the only flowers you need until after the last freeze date here. The weeping Redbud thinks it's time for Spring too!!

Gearing up for Spring!! Here are some tips to help you get your lawn ready too! 1. Do some clearing. Clear your lawn of leaves, twigs, and other debris that has gathered over the winter. 2. Apply fertilizer, pre-emergent, and w**d killer BEFORE the soil temps reach 55 degrees. 3. Trim back dead branches on shrubs and replace the mulch. 4. Trim your trees or better yet hire a professional tree trimmer. 5. Don't seed your turf areas until fall season.
